The place is beautiful and the owners are very nice and helpful. Loved the room and delicious food. One issue: we came here for peace, quiet and nature. Waking up to 'spa' music was annoying. (even though I like the music). We would prefer to hear the quiet of nature in an eco-friendly environment. Esoecially wheN trying to read! We would suggest they skip the music or limit it to only the breakfast hour.

My wife and I originally stayed at Deer Run Bed and Breakfast in June of this year and we liked it so much that we swore that we would return as soon as possible. So, we just completed our second stay during Thanksgiving week (November 2011)! :-)

If you read my original review dated July 1, 2011, it's pretty much all the same stuff. Jen and Harry are still great people, breakfasts are still excellent, the room and amenities are still great, and the deer and other "friends" (like Angel and Peri) are still there to great you every day! Sitting in the Adirondack chairs on the beach at the inn during the mornings and evenings watching all the birds was still relaxing and rejuvinating. The stars on clear nights (which was almost every night!) are still bright and unbelievable, and swimming at Bahia Honda State Park is still a delight!

My piece of parting advice from my July review still holds true as well, but with a slight twist - Make sure you wear a DEET-based insect repellant and apply it liberally. There were very few mosquitoes, but the "no-see-ums" (aka "biting midges", "punkies", etc.) were out in full force. Also, make sure that if you visit during the winter months to tell Jen and Harry to warm the pool as soon as you get there. This was not an issue when we visited back in June, but the pool doesn't get much direct sunlight during the winter months and can be a bit chilly.

We are lucky enough to live in Florida and travel to the Keys often. There is no place I have stayed in the Keys that compares to this magnificent bed and breakfast. It is as tranquil and idyllic a setting as you will find. The owners are wonderful people and very attentive. The breakfast every morning is very impressive. Although I am not a vegan, the meatless creations are fantastic. For my wife, the highlight is quiet secluded beach. For me, it was the key deer that seem to have no fear of people...just a cautious curiousity. They were beautiful. The bed and breakfast has it's own bicycles, kayaks, a pool, jacuzzi and even a glass bottom kayak that allows you to paddle shallows and see what is beneath you.

All in all, this place has our highest recommendation.

Little to add to all the many ecstatic reviews. Jen and Harry provide a tranquil spot right on the beach, surrounded by nature: an osprey eating its prey on a dead tree in front of you, Key deer wandering by with touching distance all day and night; and there are bicycles, kayaks, a pedalo, and a glass bottom kayak to look at the sea life - we saw a large manta ray and small nurse shark - amongst smaller fish. You can borrow a pass to get in free to the wonderful state park nearby.The rooms are large with screened balconies and all mod cons. This part of the Keys is really beautiful but within an hour's reach of funky Key West - where you will need to go (out of season for sure) to eat well. That is if you have room after Jen's phenomenal baking and cooking prowess (vegan - but don't worry!) at breakfast time. Any downsides? Only the noseeums and mosquito's that were there (and everywhere) in October. A place to treasure and return to.
