“Could not stay at this motel, it is in a crime war-zone”

While trying to decide whether to try this motel or the other el-cheapo one across the street, we saw a steady stream of shady characters walking around and congregating at the nearby convenience store. Once in the motel, we noticed the large armed guard, who said that we would need to present id's to stay there. He was actually nice, and explained that this area is very bad for drugs and prostitution, and that the speed bump coming into the lot is the virtual 'wall' which he intercepts anyone.

While in the lobby, another guest was there complaining about people yelling and cursing all night long out in the parking lot. We wanted to get a ground floor room so that we could park directly outside the door and keep an eye on the car, which unfortunately they weren't able to do.

We decided not to stay here, and left the area. I don't fault the people who work here, they certainly tried to accommodate us. We never got a chance to actually go into one of the rooms, so I can't comment on that aspect of this motel. But, it is in a BAD, BAD area. It is -very- convenient to the highway, but unfortunately the local criminals and hoodlums have made this a place you don't want to be, regardless of the security measures. The motel is cheap, but that doesn't offset the risk.

Room Tip: Because of crime, I cannot recommend staying at this motel. In fact, don't even come in this ge...

“Solid value for the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2011

I consider this motel a good value overall. I have stayed here numerous times over the last year and have had very few complaints.

I was surprised by the number of people complaining about the security guard and id requirement, as this is one of the best features of the motel. The location is unfortunately not a good part of town. The other motels at that intersection (Budget Inn and Super Lodge) have nicer rooms with w-fi, but they also have beggars, hookers, and other sorts of degenerates hanging around. The Motel 6, with an armed security guard, does not have these problems.

The staff is friendly and will usually try to get me my requested room. Once I got a room with a gross smell in the carpet and they immediately reassigned me to another room. I haven't had many problems with noisy neighbors.

My biggest complaint is the heating/cooling system. Apparently it can only provide heat or A/C for the entire motel, it is not switchable between rooms. So around April they switch the entire system from heat to A/C, and in October they switch it back. My last stay was in April 2011, and they had switched to A/C, and the outside temps went down to 45 degrees overnight, and it got very cold in the room. Luckily I still had my winter coat and an extra blanket in the car, so I was able to get back to sleep. So be sure to inquire about the heat/AC especially if you are staying in the spring or fall.

Another gripe is that the room cards always deactivate after one night, even if you've paid for more than one night, so you have to go back to the front desk and reactivate them.

The only other downside is the lack of wi-fi, but for the price I'm not complaining about that.

Pulled over after driving all night from Maine on our way to Maryland. It was 2:30 a.m. and we were desperate and exhausted. We were greeted by a friendly gentleman at the desk and an equally friendly security guard. The room was scary. My husband dead bolted it and pushed a chair up against the door just in case. This was by far the most disgusting, scary hotel I have EVER stayed in. I give the desk staff two thumbs up and the room…well..just sleep in your car.

“Roach Motel---The Light is OUT at this Motel6”

I've stayed at many Motel6 hotels over the years. This is by FAR the singular WORST one. A Motel6 is not supposed to be luxury accommodations, but this one was like a staying in a slum tenement for the night. First off, despite being in a fairly decent area by the looks of things, there was a security guard who took down my car license number and made a copy of my ID. Every time I pulled into the lot, he stopped my car and verified that I was supposed to be there. Secondly, the heat in the hotel in ON or OFF....only! In other words, you run the heat until you are too warm, then turn it off until you get cold at which point you wake up and get out of bed to turn it on once more. Then later you are sweating and so get back up once more to turn it off....and ect! When told about the problem, I was advised that there was nothing that they were going to do about it and I wasn't even offered an apology....in fact I was treated like I've NEVER been treated by a business in my 50 years. I was told in effect, TOUGH....and sent on my way.
I put a reverse on my credit card charge and I will NEVER stay here again.

“Maximum Security”

I did not stay at this hotel. However, I check into it for some other guys who were attending the same conference as me.

This place is very run down. Before you can enter the lobby you must give photo ID to the uniformed police officer. He then sneaks outside to write down your license plate number. He even demanded that one man go back outside to get his wife's photo ID because she was on the premises.

The man at the front desk did not speak sufficient English to answer questions or conduct the business of the hotel. He was also very rude to the guests.

This is the only hotel have seen that charges per person. It's $35 for one person, $49 for two, and $3 additional up to 4 people.

There is also a sign stating that no guests are allowed after 10 PM.
