While trying to decide whether to try this motel or the other el-cheapo one across the street, we saw a steady stream of shady characters walking around and congregating at the nearby convenience store. Once in the motel, we noticed the large armed guard, who said that we would need to present id's to stay there. He was actually nice, and explained that this area is very bad for drugs and prostitution, and that the speed bump coming into the lot is the virtual 'wall' which he intercepts anyone.
While in the lobby, another guest was there complaining about people yelling and cursing all night long out in the parking lot. We wanted to get a ground floor room so that we could park directly outside the door and keep an eye on the car, which unfortunately they weren't able to do.
We decided not to stay here, and left the area. I don't fault the people who work here, they certainly tried to accommodate us. We never got a chance to actually go into one of the rooms, so I can't comment on that aspect of this motel. But, it is in a BAD, BAD area. It is -very- convenient to the highway, but unfortunately the local criminals and hoodlums have made this a place you don't want to be, regardless of the security measures. The motel is cheap, but that doesn't offset the risk.
