“Birthday Weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My fiancee and I decided to go up to Dover Downs to gamble for the weekend. I purchased the room through Priceline (name your won price) and got it for a pretty good rate. After purchasing I called the hotel to ensure we had a king bed since we were traveling as a couple. When I called, the lady was very pleasant and informed me that we did have a king bed, but if we needed to change it that would couldnt because they could not make any changes to rooms made through Priceline (good to know). Greatfully, we were traveling as a couple and not with friends.

When we got to the hotel it was pretty nice, but the pool was closed for maintanence. Nice and clean lobby, computer in the lobby were there for guess use, with printer. The wifi was pretty spotty but there are wired connections in the rooms. The rooms were neat and well kept. The is a fitness room next to the pool. I had a problem with the fact that the curtains did not close. They have a sheer curtain up that closes all the way and a decorative curtain on top of that which doesnt move and stays open. So don't plan on sleeping in if you are easliy awaken by sunlight, or any light at all.

They provide complementary breakfast which consist of a waffle station, bananas and apples, a juice station, doughnuts, oatmeal packs, cereal, yogurt, microwavable breafast sandwhiches and a coffee. I liked it because it saved us from having to leave the hotel pay for breakfast. Also, breakfast was served from 7am to 11am and they kept the area very clean and there was a staff member there if you had any questions or needed something to be refilled.

All in all it was a pretty decent hotel for the price I paid but its not the Courtyard. The only complaints I have are the fact that I had to get dressed in the bathroom because the curtains did not close and the bed was extremely to soft, it wasn't good for my back (but my fiance loved the bed). The hotel is only a 2 min drive from the casino which is great. There is a shuttle that will come from the casino to come pick you up if you wish. We waited for 30 mins before just deciding to drive and of course once we pulled out of the parking lot the shuttle showed (not the hotels fault though just thought I would share).

If I had to go back to that area for any reason I would mind staying there again, if the price was right. But since Dover Downs charges gambler for drinks I probably will not go back. As much money as I spending in this casino you are charging for drinks??!!! Ridiculous. Anyway I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed on the street side (the main rode in Dover) and it was kind of loud. If you want quiet req...

Hi Februarysveryown,
I appreciate your review of our hotel and want to thank you for staying with us. I feel badly that you were unable to close the heavy drapes in your room and that you had to change in the bathroom. Dover Downs is such a fun place to visit, I hope you won big and decide to visit again.
Yours truly,

“Would not accommodate our request for double room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

If you're a Priceline user DO NOT BID on a 2 1/2 Star hotel in Dover, DE if you have four people traveling. I have used Priceline to bid on hotels across the country and have NEVER been refused a Double room upon check-in if the hotel actually had double rooms available. I called to confirm our reservation for January 13th at the Fairfield Inn in Dover and found that we had a King room (which is typical). I asked if we could be put in a Double room since we had 4 people in our family traveling. The front desk clerk said they could not change our reservation since it was booked through Priceline. I asked her to speak with her manager since in all my travels and uses of Priceline had I ever encountered a hotel (including other Marriotts) completely unwilling to accommodate a guest's request...especially when their hotel was virtually EMPTY! She agreed to call the general manager. When we arrived she told us the same thing she had earlier, which was that they could not change the reservation because THEY WOULDN'T GET PAID BY PRICELINE if they changed it, or if we didn't actually stay at the hotel. We then asked her to call the general manager so we could personally speak with her. The general manger told us the same thing...RUDELY! We called Priceline immediately to get confirmation about this "not getting paid" policy. Priceline assured us that every hotel gets paid regardless of whether or not the hotel changes the room upon check-in. Priceline called this hotel while we were on hold to request a double room for us. They were refused. So, we were LIED to repeatedly by the general manager.

Let me add that I completely understand that you get what you get when you book through Priceline. However, GOOD hotels will bend over backwards to ensure their guest accommodation requests are honored if at all possible. We asked the clerk if they had double rooms available. They had double rooms...they simply refused to put us in one unless we paid the regular room rate.

Moral of the story...once again...if you are going to need a double room DO NOT bid on a
2 1/2 star room in Dover, DE through Priceline. In fact, personally, since we abhor being lied to by "professionals" who should exist to provide quality service to their customers, if we have ANY other option for a hotel in Dover we will NOT be staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites!

Note: We cancelled our reservation for that night and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express down the street. A lovely hotel with good service, clean room and comfortable beds.

Room Tip: See above recommendation.

Dear Fleury6,
Thank you for your candid review. Please accept my apologies for the confusion with being able to accommodate your request to change to a room with two beds, we were honestly unaware of Priceline’s flexibility with regards to making changes to the reservation, we’ve been instructed by Marriott not to do so. This has been a learning experience and again I thank you for your review. I hope that in the future you will bid on a 2 ½ star hotel in the Dover area and allow us a chance to show you the true value in staying at our hotel.
Sincerely,
Marti Bell, General Manager

“Good value, but there's a Marriott Courtyard in the back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Dover for one night. The hotel lobby was clean and looked reasonably up to date. The hotel staff was friendly. The continental breakfast was standard for a Marriott. The eating area was clean and the food was fresh. My room was clean, but overall average (it looked well used). I noticed out the back window of the hotel that there is a Marriott Courtyard behind the Fairfield Inn. While I have no first hand knowledge I would assume the Courtyard is more polished (and pricey) that the Fairfield Inn. If you're not on a budget and plan to be in Dover for a few nights you might try the Courtyard instead. The Fairfield Inn is conveniently located to Dover Downs and Del State. There are plenty of fast food joints and diners nearby.

Dear Jeepyg,
It’s great to hear the all the positives you mention in your review, we appreciate your comments! You are correct that there are notable differences between a Fairfield Inn & Suites and a Courtyard, and that there are different price points. One of the advantages of choosing a Fairfield Inn & Suites is that our breakfast is complimentary, which we hope you had an opportunity to enjoy during your stay. We hope to see you again in the future!

“Nice hotel and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Since Dover Downs was sold out we opted for the Fairfield Inn & Suites since it is conveniently located to Dover. However, the web page indicates that there is a shuttle that runs between the casino and hotel and when we checked in on a Thursday evening, they indicated the shuttle only runs on weekends.

Our room was freezing when we checked in since the heat was turned off and the faucet had a constant drip which I can't believe no one else had reported. Other than that, the hotel was reasonably priced and comfortable. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: As for the backside of the hotel since the front side faces the highway and traffic noise can be a p...

“good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

The hotel is in a good location. Rooms were neat, clean in good shape.Staff very friendly and accomindating. Wish the wouldn't lock the rear entrancer at 11pm. That is were additional handicapped parking is. Front lot fils up because that becomes the main entrance and only entrance.
And the hairdryer is in a bag hanging in the closet.

Room Tip: Higher floors stay warm--I didn't have to turn heat on.
