We totally agree that this was basically a restaurant with a few rooms NOT and Inn. I wish I had seen the previous review on here that states that. Unfortunately I got misled by the website pictures and the quotes on the website saying the Inn has won several awards (Best of CT, Zagat Rated, Wine Spectator". We have stayed at numerous B&B's and Inns around New England, the US and Puerto Rico and in comparison - this place does not come close to warranting any award and certainly not the price tag of $200+ for their rooms.
Here are some points.........
BREAKFAST: they claim a "Continental Breakfast". Basically we got a small basket of petite size, grocery store bought muffins & croissants that had been reheated in the oven = thus being crunchy & dried out. Also a very small cup of "mix fruit" which was mostly just melon. Very low quality, especially for an "award" winning establishment. Also, compared to other places we've stayed for about the same price, very low quality, quantity and selection. I've had better breakfasts at the Holiday Inn express.
THE ROOM: We stayed in one of the suites. The blinds on the bedroom windows were literally see-through bamboo shades. We actually could see outside through them so we went outside to see if you could see into the room (because there's an entrance walkway right outside the window) and you could absolutely see right through. Not so great for a romantic getaway unless you're into people watching you in your bedroom. There was a fireplace but it didn't work the first night and had to ask them about it. Turns out the owner had turned off the pilot light because the room was too warm for the last guests. Only he never turned it back on for us. I payed specifically for a room with a fireplace! The only positive I have is that the bed was very comfortable.
THE BATHROOM: The bathroom faces the driveway and parking area for Inn entrance and there was NO SHADE on the window (seeing a theme here). There was only a thin cafe curtain on the bottom 1/2 of the window. The shower head was broken - it wouldn't hold itself upright to flow into the middle of the tub - instead it fell downward so the water ran right down the shower's back wall. So to wash your hair you literally had to stand back against the wall to get into the water stream. I told the owner and asked that he come tighten the screw so it might position properly and he didn't.
HEARTHSTONE LOUNGE/BAR: I had been excited by the website pictures - I imagined us going down for a nice glass of wine and sitting by the fire sipping it......1ST of all - there is no bar. There is a counter that has a collection of maps & pamphlets on it - no bar stools, no one tending bar, no fire in the fireplace, etc. It really is more like their check-in counter. We have been Wine Spectator members and I have NO IDEA how they ever got a Wine Spectator award. To their credit they did have a nice scotch collection but other than that the menu didn't have anything special.
OVERALL QUALITY: Overall quality was very poor. The Inn looked like it was just kept up by a handyman who didn't have any training in how to actually repair anything properly. (i.e. the tile placement in the bathroom floor/shower, broken front steps, electrical outlets falling off, etc).
All in all, this turned out to be a big disappointment. However, we are "make the best of it" people so we just laughed at all of it.....and made sure to turn all the lights out before changing and/or getting into bed. LOL!
I would not recommend this place unless they dropped the price to less than (<) $100/night.
Don't want you to think this review was written by people who just love to complain. Just so you know - we aren't people who usually complain. Until this one - we've loved each B&B/Inn we've stayed at, and enjoyed each one for it's uniqueness.
