To Whom It May Concern,
I recently visited Connecticut and and stayed in the Residence Inn in Windsor.
My arrival date was October 29th, 2011. Unfortunately, that was the same day the
area was hit by a freak late October snowstorm and knocked out power to a
majority of the state. As I do not believe this was in any way the
responsibility of the Residence Inn, I do believe the way in which the situation
was handle was less than sub-par and for the most part unacceptable.
I checked in to the motel on Saturday, October 29th 2011 at 5:00 PM. The power
went out at just after 8:00 PM that same evening and never returned throughout
my 3 night stay.
The first night I was in the motel I did not have any means of generating heat
as the unit I was in did not have a fireplace. There were no candles made
available and thus I was destined to lay in the freezing cold darkness for the
remainder of the evening attempting to stay warm with the only blanket
available.
The next day I went to the lobby to get something warm to eat and find out what
the situation was. I was met by someone other than a manager who informed me
that due to the situation breakfast would not be made available and attempted to
accommodate me by changing my room to one with a fireplace. I moved my things
and left to friends.
Upon returning to the motel that evening, I found that there wasn’t any firewood
or logs in the room to start the fire. Only the few candles a friend had let me
use. Again another night in the cold dark room.
On the third day, one of the other guests at the motel tell gave me one of their
logs to burn that eveing. Still no breakfast, no shower, no lights and no heat
and NO Manager. At this point it seemed as though the people in charge of the
motel didn’t even know who was there and who was not.
On the next day I was leaving my room to checkout, and with astonishment found a
bill for the entire amount of the stay.
So, recount:
3-nights, no lights, no heat, no breakfast, no hot water (shower). Full price.
Needless to say I was quite upset upon seeing this and went to the lobby to
inquire. After some deliberation, they agreed that I could pay only half price
for the 3 nights.
I still payed 291$ for these 3 nights!
As a part of the Marriot family, I find this customer service something to be
considered. Because of this stay and the treatment, or lack there of that I was
given, it will be hard for me to plan a stay at another Marriot facility.
