“Ups and Downs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Downs:

When I got there with my guest, we were told that the indoor pool was not working (a highlight listed on the groupon deal) and the staff member rudely told me that there was nothing she can do. I asked to speak to the manager and again, she said.. "well, there's nothing she can do for you either." Not satisfied, I stood there in awe of her attitude and finally she took down my number to have the manager call me back. I believe her first name started with an M. Microwaves and refrigerators are also not included. You have to pay separately for them.

Ups:
At the Front Desk, a staff member named Crystal was very respectful and sweet throughout the entire stay. When I asked for activities around the area, she quickly printed out a list of venues and activity ideas. The waitress at the onsite restaurant was also very sweet although I don't recall her name. The room was very clean and comfortable!

Suggestions:
1. If you're looking forward to the indoor pool, call ahead to make sure it's working.
2. Hard to enjoy the area in the winter. Not many indoor activities. Try to aim for spring/summer to enjoy the scenery.

“Sneaky charges almost a month later and rude staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I stayed at the Westport Inn and was very disappointed. First, there were cracks in the ceiling in out room and chipped paint. Second, we made a reservation for two rooms next to each other and were given rooms on different floors on opposite ends of the inn. Third, COLD showers in December! Lastly, when I checked out, I asked about any additional charges, and was told there was nothing else. 22 days later charges appeared on my credit card. When I called to question it, I was told these were taxes. I mentioned that I had asked about this at check out, and was told that it was not the staff's fault that they didn't know that I was not aware of this policy! Funny, I thought my asking would let them know that I was wondering.

Dear RBL1234,

I wanted to take a moment to respond to your "sneaky charges" allegation. Please accept my apology for the confusion. We completed an end of year audit and discovered that several of the flash sales had not properly been charged for state taxes, and you know Uncle Sam...he requires his due. In accordance with the terms of the purchase of these flash sales it does state the buyer is responsible for taxes and any incidentals, so we did process these charges.

I am very sorry we did not catch the mistake sooner, and more sorry if the team answering the phone did not have all the details for you, or seemed not to care. I appreciate that knowledge as we continue to teach the team how to better satisfy our guest.

Many thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Travel safely,
Yolande Lacan

“Worth the Groupon Deal and a very nice stay”

I used a Groupon for my stay here and it was worth it. We even got a $50 voucher for food in the restaurant that I didn't realize was part of the deal. Overall our stay was very nice and I was impressed with the decoration of the Inn. We checked in early (12pm) and there was no problem at all with that. The front desk person was very friendly. The overall location is very convenient and close to everything or anything you might need. The only thing I would recommend not doing is eating in the Inn restaurant. I used the voucher for the breakfast, which I feel should be included in the price of the stay as most Inns include breakfast. If we did pay for the breakfast, it would not be worth the $15 cost of it. I would recommend grabbing breakfast at dinner to Starbucks down the street.

“Far from fancy don't let the "Inn" fool you”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I would recommend this place to someone who needed a quick place to sleep for one night. The place was clean though our room, in the Classic building smelled a bit "eau de gym locker roomish." My family of four wanted to a quick getaway and we a had Groupon for 1night's stay with a $50 food voucher. We honestly thought this would be a quaint Connecticut Inn. Well, the place is located on a busy strip of Post Rd in Westport. The traffic was busy even at 9 p.m.
It was raining so ate at the in-house restaurant. The small dining room filled up quickly and the two waiters were a bit overwhelmed. I suspect the waiters also help out in the kitchen since one would disappear for minutes at a time. The food was OVERPRICED which quickly wiped out our $50 food credit. Our meal of two salads and two burgers with 1 tea and three sodas, cost close to $80 with tip. It wasnt worth it one bit. The burgers were overcooked and the chicken breasts in the salad were pink.
The staff did their best trying to make a mediocre place bearable. We paid $89 for the night and even with the food credit, we just won't go back. We rate it average based on the staff not the overal experience.

Room Tip: The back building appeared newer and is away from the road so that might be a better bet. Do not bu...

“Pleasantly updated motel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Choose to stay at the Inn after the description by Travelzoo and the good rate and $50 dollar voucher included. We decided to do an overnight on New Years day and booked the room about 10-14 days in advance and identified that we would be using a voucher upon booking. My boyfriend and I were looking forward to some nice R&R after a busy holiday. I received an email at 4pm the day before (for some reason in my spam folder) so didnt notice until later that evening and what I received was an email from the manager stating the conditions for our arrival. The restaurant and bar (althought I cant imagine it even being a bar it was so small ) would be closed for the holiday but would be open in the morning for breakfast and listed some of the local restaurants open for business. I had done some research on my own to find that many of the local establishments would be closed and was planning on eating at the hotel restaurant for dinner, no such luck. We would have to eat a hearty breakfast instead.
We arrived at 1:30 hoping for a early checkin and was greeted by a friendly clerk but was told that they had been "fully committed" the night prior and no clean rooms were available...really?" The parking lot was completely empty. However we happily left to tour the area and visited the park and arrived back to the front desk at 3:30 to be greeted by another clerk. We were told there were hardly any rooms but she assured us that there would be one for us. I suggested that they should have advised us upon booking that the restaurant would be closed since I planned to use the voucher and she apologized repeatedly explaining it was a last minute decision and that she too would be annoyed. We were encouraged to use the voucher for breakfast and we could "come back for dinner" the following evening if we wanted but the restaurant did not serve lunch and did not open until 5 for dinner, way past our time to depart. I had thought that we would have been comped a upgraded room but understanding that they were so full I didnt expect much. We were given a room around the back in the corner apparently more desirable, a bit larger and away from the traffic. However as we were leaving, another group entered the lobby and inquired about a room and the response was "sure no problem" really????Felt as if we were given second rate service because we used a coupon.
The room was clean, nice linen and bed but the furnishing, although new, were nothing grand. The bathroom clean but very small and no fan but functional. Also had a small awkward alcove with coffee that I didnt see until checkout and a refrig and microwave as well. I cannot say there was anything wrong with the room, king sized bed was actually very nice, but given the outside entrance and mediocre service I was glad not to have paid full price. I agree with the other reviewers as well, no pamphlets in the lobby, no hotel info in the room to locate the pool or fitness center both we found the next day in the opposing building. The pool is salt water apparently but no signs posted to say so and the water was dingy and greenish (but in defense that may be common with a salt water pool) However there was nothing inviting about it but the fitness room appeared well equipped and roomy.
We arrived at 9:30 for breakfast to be told there was no french toast or potatoes. The server was polite but seemed flustered and apologetic. We did order ample breakfasts and the food was very tasty and when requested, got muffins and yogurt to take with us as we were not going to be able to use the full voucher for our meals.
Checkout at 12 noon is nice but no receipt under the door or directions to pay on screen and therefore stopped in the lobby to check out only to find no one at the desk for the 5 mins I was there until the clerk returned from outside and assisted us.
When researching the room rates appears that our room would have been regularly $189?? seriously not worth the money. The staff seems pleasant but perhaps not staffed enough to accomodate the guests. The outward appearance is fresh and the lobby inviting, however the 10 tables in the restaurant certainly cannot be enough to accomodate a full hotel and it seems where the extra perks or service could be had, this inn was lacking...
Area was interesting lots of stores and restaurants in the vicinity but otherwise would not consider returning was this was not the "luxurious spa-like inn" it was described to be but rather an updated motor lodge.
