“A Last Resort”

WARNING: Do not stay at the West Hartford Inn! Being the only game in town, this hotel should be ashamed to be called an establishment for resting weary travelers. It was AWFUL! Cleanliness is a major problem! My wife had to clean and disinfect the bathroom before using it. The bottom of the toilet seat had dried feces on it, the bathtub had hair in it as well as around the rim, the shower walls had hair on them, and the cabinet under the sink had fingerprints all over it. The bathroom was not the only area that was dirty. The general condition of the room was poor. Dust was everywhere. The next morning, I lodged a complaint with the desk clerk on duty who advised me that she would pass my concerns on to the hotel management. I told the desk clerk to have the manager call me after the manager had a chance to address my concerns. To add insult to injury, the manager never called which clearly demonstrates management’s indifference to its guests. After making several more calls, I was finally able to contact the manager, and she placed the blame squarely on her subordinates (housekeepers). No remuneration was offered by the management. if you stay at the West Hartford Inn, bring your own cleaning supplies!

Room Tip: Travel to Farmington, Avon, or Simsbury

This hotel is one you would only stay at as a last resort.
If you are able to drive and don't need to be in West Hartford, shoot for Farmington just down the road (near the UCONN Health Center).
It is dank, and run down and perhaps has seen better days but I am not so sure. You would think that chichi West Hartford could support a decent inn or bed and breakfast - but alas that is not the case -
So we sprayed our beds for bed bugs and hoped for the best.

Room Tip: Back room overlooking the parking garage. Double check before you go there that they in fact have y...

“Shabby & Claustrophobic”

If you do not have a car and must stay in West Hartford, the West Hartford Inn is your only choice. It is well worth the drive to find a better hotel. This hotel feels claustrophobic. There is 1 small elevator that opens to very small hallways which are not wide enough to accommodate 2 guests and their luggage passing in opposite directions. The decor and facilities are very shabby and outdated. I checked for bedbugs (none) and avoided walking barefoot. The mattress was low quality and Very Uncomfortable. The blankets and spread were low quality man made fibers. The complimentary breakfast included coffee, tea, juice, low quality foods such as mass produced cinnamon rolls and mini-bagels; fruit, yogurt and a waffle maker. It was an adequate snack to start the day. The staff was courteous and efficient. I would say the West Hartford Inn is comparable to a 1 star hotel or a nice hostel. Surprisingly, there was free, easy to access WiFi. For Travelers with mobility limitations, the security door to the second level parking is very heavy and hard to manage. Both of the parking lots are very tight with small spots.

“I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

This inn should be shut down. The parking lot is filthy - debris and garbage was strewn around. The clerks are not friendly at all and obviously will never go the extra mile for anyone. I smelled pot the entire weekend I was there and nobody called the cops. I complained twice. The first time they moved me to a different floor and then boom, same exact problem. It was unbelievable that they were so lax about it. I found medication from someone on the carpet and hair on the bedspread and in the desk drawers. There were children staying on the floor where the pot was wafting from and I was kept up all night by the potheads who kept going in and out of each other's rooms. There is something really wrong with this place and it is neither well maintained nor particularly clean. The only good thing is the hot coffee, hot water, and very nice housekeepers. I also liked the Belgian waffle maker. Save your money - this place is greedy, overpriced, and criminally negligent, but if you're a pothead you'll love it.

“Going steadily downhill”

I've stayed at the West Hartford Inn on business trips countless times in the past 20+ years. It's never been a luxury hotel, but it may be the only hotel right in West Hartford, which is convenient for my purposes. This time may be the last time. The smell of smoke and just eaten food in the small lobby was the first indicator that things were not going to be great. Once I got to my room, the desk chair was so stained, I refused to sit on it. The carpet was matted down by accumulated dirt. I had to kneel on the carpet to retrieve a dropped item and saw an assortment of debris, including pills (medication), under the bed. Do they vacuum? The positives: the water was hot and the towels were thick. The funny thing is, they had posted notes apologizing for the noise being created by their "improvements." I didn't see any improvements, which might explain why I didn't hear any noise.
