“A home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I had to spend Christmas at the Marriott due to my Dad's illness and the hospital is 5 minutes away.. There was a disturbance in a room next to me and they took care of it immediately. The front desk called my room to assure me everything was handled and asked If I needed anything. Instead of an auto wake up call, one of the staff personally called me to make sure I had a good night. I was at the hospital all day and was surprised to find a note and a message on my phone from the manager to offer his apology for the inconvenience and took the night's stay off my bill. The staff was so helpful and the manager makes the incredible omelets on their breakfast buffet. I know you will enjoy all the comforts of my home away from home.

Room Tip: Only negative can be if you are a light sleeper, make sure your room is not on street side. side.One...

“A little different than other Marriotts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

This was our last night of a 16 day road trip. We came in from I 84. Take exit 21, a slight left on ramp for Meadow St. Not far from there; it's on Bank St., downtown. We were not prepared to park our vehicle in a parking garage. We've never had to do that to stay at a hotel. We were lucky to park right near the entrance and the ticket booth was manned. The hotel literally is right there across the street. That section is not busy, so it is no problem with your luggage.

There were two staff at check-in; one woman was training and they were both very pleasant and professional. We asked them why we had to pay for parking and they told us that it becomes complimentary when you swipe your room key in the slot, then deposit when you leave. Our room was clean; I'm always attracted to the "no bedspread" and the crisp white linens. The bedroom/living room itself was modern, though the sink area (outside the bathroom) needs upgrading. But it was clean.

We immediately noticed the sirens, a reminder that you are downtown. They did go on during the night, so if you can block that out, you're good. We didn't want to venture out any more, so we went to the hotel restaurant/lounge. This was the first time we have eaten dinner at the restaurant where we have spent the night. They serve homemade potato chips with drinks. They're like kettle chips and they're good! We ordered a pizza and it was great! It was tasty yummy thick crust, which was filling and the two of us only ate half. We boxed the rest for home and our tab was very reasonable. So we were impressed with this hotel restaurant.

Another surprise was that this hotel did not offer complimentary breakfast, one of the attractions for us. It saves time and money when traveling. Other than staying at Marriott on business, this is the first time breakfast is not included. We don't do check-out, since we request our bill be slipped under the room door, so it is quick in the morning. Like the staff said, we slipped our room key in the parking meter slot and it became a zero balance. What we noticed then, immediately in front of us, on Marriott property, were signs for I 84 East or West. That was great! Things look different in the evening, so it was easy to get back on the highway.

Would we return here? I'm not sure. First, Waterbury is not a destination we'd necessarily plan on, but the "no complimentary breakfast" would perhaps swing our vote to a "no." We hate splurging for breakfast when there are many hotel options that include good accommodations and a decent breakfast. And though we had close parking in the garage, I think it would have been a turn off if we were any further. But for this time, it was okay.

“Don't come without your Bullet-Proof Vest!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Was looking for something to do over a long weekend and decided to stay here. "Sounded" good..central Connecticut, downtown, near things, etc. Boy were we surprised! Waterbury Connecticut is a war zone... And very run down. We tried to walk a few blocks near the hotel to pick up a few items and get some exercise (since the fitness center at the hotel was dismantled), and within 5 minutes were approached by panhandlers and other street urchins. Later that night we saw a local play that was good (a bright spot) but when we returned to the hotel there were no less than 7 police cars circling the hotel and parking garage obviously chasing someone. In addition there were a group of men in the garage with full size liquor bottles drinking out of them. We had to wait in our car for things to settle down before getting out and trying to make it to the lobby! Didnt want to even leave my "car" in the garage but had no choice. After making it up to our room, the sirens of police vehicles speeding around the neighborhood continued all night. Hats off to the Waterbury PD...they have their hands full. In fairness, the staff was pleasant and the room was modern and clean, but that's about it. Beware...keep your head down, and enjoy your stay! Good luck!!

Thak you for your feedback. We are very proud to be located in the city of Waterbury. Being just step away from the Palace Theatre, Mattatuck Museum and other many other attractions, we find ourselves in a premeir location of the city. Our Waterbury Police officers work hard and do an amazing job to protect the city. We have been in contact with the Waterbury Police Department. There were no police chase situations on Saturday evening at anytime. However while renovations are taking place on the Waterbury Police Departments own ramp garage the police cruisers are being stored in the ramp garage on Bank Street across from Diorio’s restaurant (behind our hotel). During this renovation process it has been common for several cruisers at a time to come through our driveways to enter the Bank Street ramp garage to avoid several downtown traffic lights. Because we are a downtown property in CT’s 4th largest city we do offer our guests complimentary ear plugs because if you are not used to city noise it can be distracting. We thank you for your feedback on your stay.

Best Regards,

“Clean, Comfortable, Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Not the newest or best hotel I've ever stayed at ... but ... if you're not looking for fancy schmancy ... and ... if clean and comfortable is what you want ... along with reasonable room rates ... a decent breakfast ... and really good, hot shower .., then this is your place. Special note about the friendly staff, especially Damar (nice, kind, professional young man) at the front desk.

“Savior during the winter storm power outage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

After loosing power in Middlebury on the night of the storm and being told by CL&P that I would be without power for at least a week, I jumped in my car and sarted driving around to all the hotels in my area to see if they had any rooms. After visitng 3 hotels my last stop was at the Courtyard Marriiott in Waterbury. What a pleasant surprise after standing in line for a about 10 minutess they said yes, we have one more room left. What an incredible stay. My children and my parenets and I stayed warm, had great meals, had a pool and cable for our 7 day stay at the hotel. The rooms were impeccibly clean, the staff bent over backwards for everyone (and they were SO busy I can imagine the stress). The rooms were spacious, carpets new, sheest crisp clean and room decor beautiful. I now proudly reccomend this hotel to guests traveling through, Waterbury is lucky to have this hotel with great management.
