This was our last night of a 16 day road trip. We came in from I 84. Take exit 21, a slight left on ramp for Meadow St. Not far from there; it's on Bank St., downtown. We were not prepared to park our vehicle in a parking garage. We've never had to do that to stay at a hotel. We were lucky to park right near the entrance and the ticket booth was manned. The hotel literally is right there across the street. That section is not busy, so it is no problem with your luggage.
There were two staff at check-in; one woman was training and they were both very pleasant and professional. We asked them why we had to pay for parking and they told us that it becomes complimentary when you swipe your room key in the slot, then deposit when you leave. Our room was clean; I'm always attracted to the "no bedspread" and the crisp white linens. The bedroom/living room itself was modern, though the sink area (outside the bathroom) needs upgrading. But it was clean.
We immediately noticed the sirens, a reminder that you are downtown. They did go on during the night, so if you can block that out, you're good. We didn't want to venture out any more, so we went to the hotel restaurant/lounge. This was the first time we have eaten dinner at the restaurant where we have spent the night. They serve homemade potato chips with drinks. They're like kettle chips and they're good! We ordered a pizza and it was great! It was tasty yummy thick crust, which was filling and the two of us only ate half. We boxed the rest for home and our tab was very reasonable. So we were impressed with this hotel restaurant.
Another surprise was that this hotel did not offer complimentary breakfast, one of the attractions for us. It saves time and money when traveling. Other than staying at Marriott on business, this is the first time breakfast is not included. We don't do check-out, since we request our bill be slipped under the room door, so it is quick in the morning. Like the staff said, we slipped our room key in the parking meter slot and it became a zero balance. What we noticed then, immediately in front of us, on Marriott property, were signs for I 84 East or West. That was great! Things look different in the evening, so it was easy to get back on the highway.
Would we return here? I'm not sure. First, Waterbury is not a destination we'd necessarily plan on, but the "no complimentary breakfast" would perhaps swing our vote to a "no." We hate splurging for breakfast when there are many hotel options that include good accommodations and a decent breakfast. And though we had close parking in the garage, I think it would have been a turn off if we were any further. But for this time, it was okay.
