“I almost hate to write this...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

...as I would prefer this motel stay unknown to people so I could continue getting rooms here at the reasonable rates they have. But fair is fair - good performance should be rewarded.

I understand some of the negative reviews for it, as expectations seem to be different for higher-userrated hotels and motels. My giving it 4 stars does not mean this is a 4-star hotel. Far from it.

But it's a very clean, safe, dependable motel for its niche. It's a 2.5-star by conventional standards. For the price, however, it performs rather well.

I love the location - it's in a residential neighborhood so you don't have the traffic you would have in a business/tourist area. Yet it's still right on the "beach" (I use the term "beach" loosely here - not a swimming/surfing spot at all), and the atmosphere is amazing.

I also understand some of the negative comments regarding the check-in/check-out - wouldn't fly in a chain hotel/motel. But that's just the thing - it's really NOT a chain motel, though it carries the "Rodeway Inn" brand.

Yes, the gentleman (who I believe is a relation to the founder) at check-in was on his cell while checking me in. That didn't stop him from being helpful and actually giving me a different room as I wasn't thrilled with the first one (the balcony/smoking/1full room is on the 1st floor and the "balcony" looks STRAIGHT INTO the restaurant - really no privacy whatsoever - but that's why it's priced lower). He can speak on his cell all he wants, so long as I get what I want, and quickly - and I did.

I'm planning my next visit as we speak. And I'll keep returning, so long as the price/quality balance remains the same.

Room Tip: Go for the second-floor rooms if you're getting one with the waterview. No elevator, but they h...

“Great place to stay in Southern CT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Gladly surprised of a clean/comfortable(big) overlooking the LI sound room in a nice Inn in a quaint little town.
The room had a nice table and 2 chairs where we were able to play Clue.
They have a restaurant where you can sit and enjoy the LI sound. We went early, before the kids got up, and enjoyed a cup of coffee. Since we were staying at the hotel, our coffee was free of charge. Nice! We went for a walk, saw the LI ferry crossing and then had breakfast with the kids.
Our college kid immediately texted her boyfriend to let him know about the Inn.

“A very fun find”

I agree with the positive reviews about what a hidden gem this is. Very authentic, down-to-earth, honest and great quality for the price location (and adjacent restaurant). Owned by the same family for 55 years and the pride in that shows. On the beach and worth getting the beach view balcony. Free wi-fi and parking - no elevator apparent, but only 2 floors or so high. Fun to be by the water in a residential neighborhood and a great feeling of having stumbled upon a secret find by the time one gets to it (not far from 95 - but also far from obvious!).

“Who knew?!? Hidden gem!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011 via mobile

Must say I was skeptical about this place because the price was very reasonable for a beach front hotel but I was pleasantly surprised!! We got a second floor room (king bed) overlooking LI sound. Check-in was speedy without problems. There looks to be 7 second floor rooms that overlook LI sound. The first four are o.k. and are located on the restaurant's roof top hence you see A/C units in front of you while sitting in your balcony (you still see the Sound nicely though). The other 3 units have clear/unobstructed views of the Sound so book those if you can! I believe they are room numbers 207 and up. Our room was huge. King size bed, fridge, microwave, little dinning table with four chairs, good size balcony with two chairs, big bathroom. As previously mentioned it does not have the most modern of decorations but it then again if you are coming here you will mostly be in your balcony, the beach or generally outside. The restaurant's food was good. The neighborhood is nice. We took a nice long stroll and found a cute deli (not far @ all). Only negative things we encountered were the headboard of the need was in need of tightening (made noise), one of the lamps by the side of the bed was not working, and the fridge made a little too much noise for our liking. These things, though, did not hamper our stay at all!! The beach is great! Small but clean and you can't beat the fact it is right in front of your room. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for an economical getaway!!

“Wonderful place!!”

My husband and I just wanted to get away for a couple days-and not go to far from home-a friend told us about the restaurant 1st (which is wonderful-has the BEST hot lobster rolls!) and then mentioned the Rodeway Inn-so looked it up online and got reservations. I was a little leery as we had never seen this motel before and heard it was a bit old-but took the chance as the prices were wonderful-we got a room with a balcony overlooking LI sound so figured it couldnt' be too bad! Well, we were pleasantly surprised-the room was huge-very clean and the bathroom was beautiful-looks like it had just been updated. The staff was very friendly and helpful (we had a bit of a problem with the 1st room we were given and the immediately moved us into another room) It was very quiet-not near any major roadways-and having the beach right there was so relaxing and wonderful. We only live about a half hour's ride to this place and am sure we'll be popping back for an occasional weekend getaway.
