“New England Authenticity, CT Shoreline Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Our favorite village on the Connecticut shoreline is Stonington, an authentic jewel on the Long Island Sound that we have visited for more than 15 years and have longed to wake up in. This year, between holidays, we decided to make that dream come true. And a dream it was in this perfect charming small hotel. The Inn at Stonington is intimate, with rooms on only three floors, some with balconies and Sound view. All rooms are beautifully-appointed with lovely wall paper and furniture, comfortable beds and amazing bathrooms. Breakfasts are served in a ground-floor common room flooded with light and with fine vistas over the water. You are welcomed to linger over newspapers with coffee, juices, a fresh fruit bowl, hard-boiled eggs, an assortment of scones, fresh cranberry and nut breads, hot cinnamon buns, hot and cold cereals accented with nuts, cranberries and brown sugar. Despite the beauty of the inn, its location and the excellent breakfasts, the highlight of the Inn for us was the wonderful staff. They could not have been more welcoming and accommodating, providing us with in-town dining tips as well as excursions into the lovely countryside north of the village. We have already made our reservations for Stonington's annual holiday stroll, when the village shops open their doors with festive food and drink, following the lighting of the town tree. We expect many happy returns to Stonington and this fine inn.

Room Tip: Even rooms on the town side, as ours was, were quiet. The more expensive rooms, on the Sound side w...

“Great stop near Mystic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

The Inn at Stonington is a great place to stop. We stayed in the most massive room in the renovated building next to the Inn itself. It was huge with a great spa. Stonington is much smaller and better preserved than Mystic, and I would recommend this if you want a more low key experience than staying in Mystic. The port is just a short drive away so you can have the best of both worlds.

Room Tip: Top floor in annex building - room was absolutely huge and well appointed.

“Delightful inn, friendly staff”

My husband and I stayed here for two nights over the summer. Our room was gorgeous, spotless, and very comfortable. We enjoyed sitting in the living room, taking in the views, and catching up with family members--it is a lovely common area. Breakfast was simple, but delicious and service was friendly throughout our stay. We'll definitely be back!

“Another lovely time at the Inn”

We stayed here for 2 nights (our 3rd year in a row) and, as always, had a wonderful time. We stayed in Room 3, a seaside facing king with fireplace, and absolutely loved it. It was unseasonably mild weather so we sat outside on our balcony and watched the sunset. So beautiful! The Inn is spotless, the innkeepers are very nice, and the town is quaint and friendly. We always enjoy the nightly wine and cheese. Breakfast is not elaborate, but fine for us. Eat at Milagro if you love Mexican food. That place is awesome. Enjoy an evening cocktail at Skipper's Dock, right behind the Inn. Visit the new winery in town, Saltwater Vineyards, for a fun wine tasting experience. If you're looking for a place where you can go to de-stress, stay at the Inn at Stonington.
