My family and I had a chance to stay at the Homestead Suites for the last few weeks, on a business assignment.
Overall, they are pretty much what you would expect - clean, adequately maintained, and very helpful staff. Rooms are spartan but nice, and the equipped kitchens are very useful for longer than weekend stays. Kitchen is complete with a refrigerator, microwave, pots and pans, and basic silverware.
Though they don't have a gym, they have a tie-up with a local Planet Fitness about a mile away - which has plenty of machines and personal TVs. So that works out just fine. Just remember to take your room key and ID with you.
We had two complaints about our stay.
Our first week was spent in a room pretty much overhead the reception area, on the second floor. We woke up on a rainy night to find water dripping from the ceiling. With a floor above us. No idea how. The hotel personnel on duty said "Oh Boy" and woke up the person upstairs and did some running but finally said we have to bear with it until morning. When the maintenance people came in the morning, it had stopped raining - and dripping. The drips started again a few nights down, again on a rainy night.
We eventually moved to a different room.
Now, the second issue - internet. They clearly mention "free high speed internet" - but that's "high speed" only technically. As in faster than 14.4 kbps dial-up - but barely. Bandwidth is between 25 kbps and 250kbps - when you can connect. If you pick a room that is far down the corridor from the central reception area, good luck connecting from your room. My laptop kept dropping the signal, and I had to call tech support several times each day to keep the connection alive.
The other alternative is to grab a table at the common area (open 7 to 7) and connect - no issues from here (apart from the bandwidth, which is as mentioned earlier)
Overall - since we ended up eating out most of the time anyway - I'd rather avoid this place if I need to come down here again, unless there were pressing needs to keep the budget low. A business hotel without a standard internet connection is a major show stopper. Even rest areas on the NY Thruway have high speed internet for free.
