“Great Inn!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2006

My wife and I have been taking a yearly trip to the Old Riverton Inn for about the last 10 years. The Inn is over 200 years old, and is a very interesting place – we just love staying there. It’s a wonderful place to visit in the autumn, the foliage is amazing! We also like to go in the spring for fishing and kayaking on the lovely Farmington River. People’s State Forrest is another great thing about the area; there are many hiking trails and wonderful scenic Berkshire views! Riverton is the quaint kind of New England village that you just can’t find elsewhere these days – with a General Store, and an assortment of quaint shops. If you’re looking for a nice long weekend of R&R, this is the place to go!

“Classic working New England Inn”

We wanted to stay at an authentic New England Inn and the Old Riverton Inn is exactly that. Some of the details go back to the 1790's and there is a story about every part of the Inn. An added plus is that most of the furniture is from the Hitchcock mill that was situated for many years in Riverton.
Food was great but do some checking on which nights the dining room is open and plan your trip to include at least one of the evening meals. Breakfast was served with a smile every morning.
We also did some trout fishing on the west branch of the Farmington River which is by far the best in this part of New England and includes a catch and release area.
We plan on returning for Fall foliage.

The inn was a bit creaky, but quaint and comfortable. It was the perfect place for my husband and I to relax after a day of fishing on the nearby river. We had been looking for a quiet, unpretentioius spot and found it at the Old Riverton Inn.

“Bring a Plunger”

The food at the restaurant is very nice; however the accomodations for overnight guests are terrible. My 80 year old mother stayed their for several nights. She arrived to discover the commode filthy and clogged.
The paint on the walls was peeling. The room had not been dusted.
Guests can make calls from their rooms, but the phones in the rooms do not accept incoming calls. (This is hard to believe, but it's really true.) A huge inconvenience. My mother was not particularly happy with the fact that the proprietor was not on site at night but at a house a little distance fron the inn. It left her feeling unsafe. It also meant that when I left a message with the proprietor that I would be about an hour late picking up my mother, that my message and arrived at the same time.Do yourself a favor: stay away.
