My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner last night at the Old Riverton Inn. This was our first time back there in at least 20 years. The inn dates from 1796 and is beautifully and lovingly maintained. It is situated in the timeless village of Riverton on a branch of the Farmington River. It has changed very little over the years. The dining room is comfortable with a large fireplace and oak beams on the low ceiling. It is quiet with understated elegance and the tables are candlelit making for a romantic atmosphere. The food and service are great! Prices are very reasonable and all entrees come with interesting breads and house salads. The prices range from $18 to $26. Interesting choices - my wife had cedar planked salmon with a ginger sauce and she loved it. I had a traditional roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings and it was perfect for the colonial ambiance of the inn. Wines are very reasonably priced. We enjoyed a 2008 Mirrasou Pinot Noir for $19.00. The drive to the inn, from Rte. 44, is gorgeous with scenic views. The restaurant is open only on weekends and serves breakfast daily to overnight guests. Just a memorable evening!
