We went to this hotel because we had no power at our house for one week and this was the first hotel we found a room. I understand they were busy because of everybody looking for a hotel but the hotel staff was extremely rude! The hotel is in desperate need of renovation and it is just not clean. We stuck it out because we had nowhere else to go. The lady in the breakfast area did work hard and tried to make us feel at home.

Don't bother calling!!!!! The ladies at the desk are rude, rude, rude and mean. It's like you are bothering them when you call and ask for info. It's their job! Never in my life time have I had to be subjected to such a feeling like you are imposting on the ladies personally. They actually hang up and never say good bye or thank you. How about a good morning??? That never happened during out stay!!! What is it with these ladies? ...they should be humbled to have jobs and be happy to go to work.....and especially with today's economy. There are people out there who would love to have a job and would smile about it!!! I think it's time to refresh the Desk job at Comfort Inn in Old Saybrook! If they are so miserable, why make the residents there unhappy and with a feeling of not wanting to be there!

When I first walked into the comfort inn I was pleased with the spaciousness of the room. However upon settling in a musty odor appeared. Kept smelling it all night long. Not sure if it was heater or something else. Bathroom floor did not appear to be all that clean either. However the rest of the room appeared clean.

My wife and I stayed at this Comfort Inn on the night that the Halloween snow storm hit the Northeast. The hotel lacks a covered entrance so I got soaked registering and getting the luggage out of the car. The room was large but badly in need of renovation. Mold could be seen on the ceiling at the point of a prior leak. There was heavy dust and cobwebs on the A/C-Heater and so it went with the rest of the room. Because of the storm and the fact that we were very tired we decided to simply deal with these issues. But then, at 12:40 AM the fire alarm went off (we later were told that it was likely done by a drunk attending a party in the hotel lounge). I called the front desk to learn what was happening and the night clerk said – in broken English - that he did not know what the problem was but that perhaps he should call 911. I told him that he better darn well get to it. The alarm continued to blare until 1:15 AM. Then, the next morning we took one look at the absolutely pathetic complimentary breakfast and checked out as quickly as possible. I will say that the reception staff on check-in and check-out were pleasant. However, overall in my opinion travelers should consider avoiding this place.
