“sumptuous breakfasts in 1784 house dining room with fireplace”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 March 2011

CIA trained chef presented beautiful plates heaped with gourmet breakfast foods: a wonderful egg scrambled with squashes and onions the first morning; and his legendary cinnamon French toast stuffed with bananas, strawberries and cream cheese the second morning. The 1784 house once was a bookstore so each room is themed around one author, with related collections and copies of author's famous books. Our Thoreau bedroom was spacious, attractively decorated, had a fireplace and was right next to common room with more books and magazines plus a TV. Michael was very helpful suggesting restaurants for dinner, places to visit, etc. Old Mystic is a quiet village slightly away from downtown Mystic, but near Aquarium and a charming area of shops, cafes and movie theater.

“Great way to prepare for the holidays!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2010

This was our first trip to Mystic with two great friends and our host Michael and his staff made it so memorable we hated turning in our keys. Being in the historic main house (aka former book store), we enjoyed gourmet healthy breakfasts, comfy accommodations all decked out for the season (but remember, this is a home, not a hotel), great advice on the local sites, and a chance to take a leisurely first look at Mystic. We had it all from a weather perspective - cold, snow flakes, wind, rain, and sun - but that did nothing to hinder us from our local touring since we ended each day by the warm fire sipping cocoa in the tastefully decorated sitting room. We returned home rested, reconnected and ready for the holidays.
Thanks, Michael - you made us eager to return in 2011!

“A truly excellent Bed and Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2010

Beautiful room, exquisite breakfast (forget your diet for a day) and an Inn-keeper that treats you as his personal guest. I would definately recommend this place to a friend, and would come back.

“Beautiful, restful, quaint, peaceful, wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

My husband and I, (Carol and Joe) and my sister and brother-in-law (Kathy and Tom) had the pleasure of staying at the Old Mystic Inn from 10/15/10 to 10/17/10. Our host, Michael, welcomed us, and gave us a tour of the Inn (kitchen, dining room, parlor room, which had a TV, board games and books) as well as the upstairs parlor, which boasted multiple sofas, chairs, books, stunning picture windows with gorgeous views). Both parties had rooms upstairs in the main Inn. My room had a porch, which was very pretty. The rooms were all spacious, well decorated in country/"folk art" style; the bed was SO comfortable; in addition, there were 4 chairs, ample drawer/storage space, spacious bathroom; also, a light in each window welcomed all who visited.
One person in our party is a vegetarian; one does not eat eggs; Michael and his staff prepared our meals to accomodate these issues. It was discussed upon arrival, and they took it from there; it was never a problem. On Saturday evening, the dining room was all decked out for Halloween, which we followed with a "haunted tour" of the Old Mystic dockyard (spooky and fun); Michael arranged this for us. Dinner was a true Halloween feast, "bony finger" rolls, "spider web" soup, and dessert with dollops of jam; the lighting was low, and Halloween lights flickered. It was "spook-tacular."
Michael also recommended several sites, which we welcomed (wine tasting tours; cider mill, shopping).
To sum it up, we had a wonderful time at the Old Mystic Inn; we can't wait to go back again. It was a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; we all got to relax and enjoy the beautiful Inn.
Sincerely,
Carol Belvedere

“Charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2010

Perfect getaway for us! Michael was everything an owner/chef should be in a B&B. Rooms charming and comfy; appreciated the extra touches such as providing evening snacks and a frig filled with cold drinks. Breakfasts were delicious and beautifully presented. Good location also.
