“Great place to stay”

We were greeted by wonderful desk clerks who got us to our room quickly, even though we arrived a couple hours early. We had plans at Mohegan Sun and it was a quick drive to the casino and convenient. The room had a frig for our leftovers. Very clean and fresh. The hairdryer was hiding in a clean bag in the closet and not on the wall. The only thing that would make it better would be a free breakfast in the a.m.

“Big dissappoinment!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

I'm a Marriott Rewards customer. I actually used my "free" points to stay at this hotel & it wasn't worth it! The room was dirty, the smell of old food was everywhere (I actually stepped on dried food near the bed) & the mattress probably needed replacing 5 years ago. I completed the survey that Marriott sent & never received a response. Thinking about switching to Hilton!

“hotel experence”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

The price was right,$89.00 a casino special but that's where my happiness ends. Maybe my bed was old but it sure was lumpy and uncomfortable. The plumbing in the next room was close enough that I was awoken every time the toilet was flushed. Also being on the ground floor all night long I awoke to car doors slamming. The heating system was loud and one minute you are dieing of heat than freezing. The lobby was nice but I've stayed in less expensive hotels and was given a free continental breakfast, not here. The one thing I have to say is the staff was one of the nicest group of people around, too bad the room didn't match. I would suggest finding a alternate hotel like sleep-inn right off 95.

Room Tip: Don't know if there are any good rooms here

“Great if going to the casino, otherwise, meh”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

This Courtyard has the new-style lobby and a lot of room to relax, work on your laptop, grab a snack/drink at the bar/lounge, watch TV, use the internet on the provided workstations, etc. Very nice. For many guests the free casino shuttle to Mohegan Sun is the primary reason for staying here and I believe directly contributes to the above average regular rates at this hotel(especially on weekends) and gives it it's category 4 reward level. No way is this hotel worth spending 20k points on per night, w/o the casino close by it would be category 2.

Staff: Everyone was very nice and polite from the front-desk staff to the housekeeping staff who always smiled and said hello when seeing a guest in the elevator and hallways. Upon checkin as only a Silver Elite member I was given an upgrade to a Whirlpool King room even though this was a free night certificate. Our room had a fridge in it(which looked like someone dropped several times but worked), not sure if all rooms have one or just the whirlpool rooms.

Rooms: For the high rates, I thought the rooms would have been a little bit more updated. Window curtains were ripped and fixed with duct tape and the furniture was a bit outdated. I have slept on more comfortable beds in other Marriott properties. The HVAC units are older as well and are not controlled by a thermostat rather old school knobs on the unit itself. Ours didn't really put out cold air and the room was kind of warm. You'll want the fan on to drown out the traffic noise as it is right off the highway and does have a fair amount of noise from that. However the room was very clean and had plenty of towels, pillows, notepad, etc. Nice, new 32'' LCD HDTVs and just as important a very good HD channel lineup(nearly 20 channels including all local stations). Too many hotels get these great new HDTVs and use a crappy SD analog lineup. Not here, really nice to see so many HD choices.

Casino Shuttle: It was prompt and fast and the driver was very nice. You do need to sign up with the front desk for both departure and return shuttles as it only seats about 12 people, so do some planning ahead as to when you want to return. They told us if our plans changed to call the hotel and they could put you on an earlier or later shuttle. It's only a 10 minute ride and they drop off/pick up at the Summer Entrance to the casino. While not as convenient as going to your room upstairs right from the casino floor, for $200+ savings on a Friday or Saturday night it's a safe way to get back to your room after enjoying yourself and not having to pick a DD.

Overall if you are looking to save some serious bucks or looking to spend that $200 difference on dinner/gambling this hotel is a great choice. Using a free night certificate(not points) at a hotel like this with higher than average rates is a no-brainer. While not the most newly renovated it's clean, safe, the staff is nice, and most importantly has the free shuttle to Mohegan Sun. Minus 1 star for the older rooms not being kept up in the best shape.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the side that doesn't face the highway, it's probably much quieter.

“Older Marriott”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

Although the lobby is very modern, the rooms were not. The room and bathroom was clean, but the bathroom had an older look to it. Although the room floor, etc. was clean, it did not smell clean and fresh, so we opened the window to air it out. The pillows were very hard and we could hear all kinds of noises in the hotel. Someone above us came in late and it sounded as if that person was in our room. The worst problem was the heating system. When you turned on the heat it sounded as if a train was coming into the station. It went on and off all night. The pool was very nice, staff friendly and great coffee, but we would not stay there again.
