“Exceeded my expectations”

I stayed here when I bid for a hotel room in the area on Priceline. I used to live in this area and I had remembered this location as an old Holiday Inn. Well, it's nothing like that hotel was. It's clean and in very nice condition. Tony at the front desk was as nice as could be and the warm cookies were welcome at 11pm when we checked in. The beds are very, very comfortable. I slept very well when I usually don't sleep well on my first night in any hotel. I would be happy to stay here again.

“WAY overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

My wife and I made a reservation on their website for that evening (a Tuesday). Neither AAA nor AARP rates were available, despite the parking lot being less than 1/4 full on our evening arrival. So we were stuck for $200, plus $28 in taxes. For that price, you would expect full channel tv service. No dice. Maybe 20% of the channels came in that evening. We called their inaptly named Care Center, and were told tv service problem was the result of a wind and rain storm, that it was a satellite issue. No apology, no offer to adjust the bill. The next morning, same problem, despite good weather. On checking out, we advised the desk clerk. Her response was to inquire if that was our only complaint, giving us the impression tv service outage is a common problem, indeed even to be expected. Again, no apology, no offer of any consideration whatsoever. These people haven't heard of cable? Even with tv service, the room cost twice its value. Never again.

We did recently experience a short term issue with our satellite service. The issue lasted less than 24 hours, and was an isolated incident. We regret that this was an inconvenience and are sorry that we did not offer the apology you deserved. Feedback from our travelers is reviewed with our team so that we may strive for contined improvement. Thank you for sharing your experience.

“Friendly service.”

We stay often as my son has medical treatment in Darien. Everyone is friendly, the room is adequate. We were very grateful for our discounted 'We Care' rate negotiated by our Dr.'s office, but dissappointed that it has recently gone up by approx 50%!
Staff makes sure we have a fridge for my son's meds. On the negative side, smoking area is right outside the main lobby doors and as they open automatically, smoke rushes into the lobby and adjoining bar and restaurant. Perhaps the smoking area should be moved away from the front door, as many hospitals do. Having a no-smoking facility is useless if the lobby is constantly being flooded with smoke. The food in the in-house restaurant is good, but extremely expensive and not worth the money. Easy access to Rte 95. I am a Hilton Honor's member, but do not receive any special accomodations other than 2 water bottles in the room.

“Convienent location, friendly service and great price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

This was my 3rd time staying at this hotel. My mother lives in the area, and with lots of people in town, she did not have room for everyone, so my husband and I stayed here. We checked in late in the evening, but Hector was very friendly and helpful. The Doubletree has a nice bar in the hotel. After a long drive, it was nice to relax in their bar and have a few drinks. The warm chocolate chip cookies are also very good. Parking can be a problem. On our 2nd night, we returned to the hotel and could not find a spot in their lot. There were alot of moving type trucks parked in the lot. We did discover that they have a parking garage our back (to the right of the main entrance). If you go to the second level, there is an entrance right into the lobby, which was convenient. This is an older property and is showing some wear. The caulking in the bathrooms could use some cleaning/replacing. Since this hotel is on the highway (95), the quieter rooms are located towards the front of the hotel and face front parking lot. The rooms in the back face Costco and behind that 95. For the price and location, we would definitely stay here again of my mother's house gets too crowded.

“Nothing Special”

We lost power in the October snow storm and needed a place to stay. This hotel had rooms available when others were sold out, so we booked it. This is an old property that has been updated, but still feels aged and dated. The room was nice enough, and the amenities were at the low end of what you would expect. The hotel was packed, and noisy. The parking lot was full, and the garage part of the parking area is a bit dark and scary.

I have stayed in other Doubletree hotels that had a very different and more upscale feeling. This hotel just misses the mark. We were thrilled to have a room, but there is something telling about all the other hotels in the area filling up before this one.

Room Tip: Our room was in the front of the building. It was a little noisy outside in the parking lot. I wou...

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay during the October snow storm. With so many local residents displaced from their homes due to the storm, the hotel was a very busy place during this time. Being uprooted from your home with little notice and without choice on a cold winter day can be unsetteling. We are sorry you didn't find the hotel to be more comforting during this time.
