I was sent to New London for a job training and the agency booked my stay at the New London Plaza simply for logistics (it is pretty centrally located). The hotel looks like it was a nice place once upon a time with marble lobby and cherry-wood elevators, but it is clearly and simply not being kept up to standard.
They boast an indoor pool but it was void of water.
They have a smoke-free policy but the smell in my room would suggest otherwise. I made sure to let the front desk know the minute I walked in so as not to be charged the $250 fee for "smoke damage".
The bathtub liner was ill-fitted, meaning there was an air-bubble beneath my feet upon which I'd rock in the shower.
The beds are made daily but the cleaning staff overlooks things. For example, the first morning I woke there I made coffee in the room's coffeepot. The coffee was never refilled, and my mug was never cleaned. On day two I tried leaving a spoon in the mug but, upon returning that evening, mug and spoon were right where I left them. On day three I put a crumpled napkin in the mug along with the spoon and, again, I came home to the same. Similarly, a co-worker had a family of spiders in a web under her sink, which she told hotel staff about, but they never cleared them out for her. She asked then to switch rooms and they gave her a new one begrudgingly.
Sleep number beds are alright- a good idea if you like that kind of thing.
The chef, Tony, and the bartender, Tina, are lovely people who will be the saving graces of your stay at the New London Plaza.
Signs in the lobby say Holiday Inn has bought the place and will soon be renovating. I can only hope that the process begins before I must return again in February.
