“Bedbug Infestation in Room 319”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We stayed in Room 319 at this hotel in early September. When we first entered the room, it appeared clean but had a distinct sour odor to it. Upon returning to the room after attending a wedding downstairs, there were around 20-30 bedbugs crawling on both beds and the people sleeping in them at the time. When we touched one to make sure what it was, it popped and spurted blood. We immediately packed up our belongings, informed the useless front desk clerk about the situation, and left the hotel. After leaving, we asked some family members to return to pick up something we had left behind in the room. They said that the room was absolutely infested at that time. We spoke with the manager the following Monday, and though he acknowleged the problem and we were given a credit, he did not agree to fully reimburse us for cleaning costs and questioned whether we needed to be concerned since we had only seen them on the bed at the time. In the interest of full disclosure, I would note that we knew several other people staying in the hotel that night and their rooms did not seem to have any bedbugs. Finally, I would note that this hotel is no longer affiliated with Radisson.

“New England Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

My Husband and I had a wonderful weekend again in New London! We went 8/26-8/27-8/28 2011. We were pleased again with the hotel. New London is a quaint little town to walk around in and just relax. I choose this hotel because it is centrally located to walk around town, down to the water and Bank St where there are shops and restaurants. We go primarily to visit the naval base area and the Submarine Museum is fantastic. Also we love to go to Captain Scott's Lobster Shack. It is fantastic! We take a picnic basket with a tablecloth and wine and wine glasses. You sit outside on picnic tables and they have the best whole lobsters I have ever had for $18.95, you get a 1 1/4 Lb lobster, corn, red potatoes and cole slaw. I highly recommend this if you go to the area. We found another place we went for lunch called Freds Shanty, also a wonderful outside place to go.
Unfortunatly we were there at the start of Hurricane Irene. The hotel made us feel safe. They informed us they had a generator to keep electricity on for the entire hotel. We also felt comforted that the local weather team was staying at our hotel. They offered for us to stay at a very low price if we could not get home as well. We did leave and drove home but stayed clear of the NYC area, however it was comforting to know we could stay there and they would not inflate the prices. When we checked out they even said they would keep the room open for that day in case we got stuck and had to turn around. They always checked to make sure we were comfortable and we knew what was was going on with the road closures and safety precautions. The staff there were very nice and thoughtful.
We will definetly be returning to this hotel next year and every year. They are going through a big renovation. It is not called the Radisson at the time but the New London Plaza Hotel and I did confirm another review on this hotel that they are purchased by the Holiday Inn so I assume the next visit we will see all the changes they have made. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the sleep number beds are fun. The water pressure is great in the rooms and it was nice and quiet. The only issue we had was on our second nights stay our room was never cleaned but we think the staff went home early due to the oncoming storm. We called and they brought us fresh towels. It is a very short drive to Ocean Beach and to the base in Groton. We also drove to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods just to walk through the casinos, they are both very nice. We visited a couple wineries as well and there are quite a few nice wineries on the Connecticut Wine Trail.
We are looking forward to our trip again in the Spring and we wish the town and all its people well and hope they all recover from the storm. They are in our prayers! Thank you New London Hotel for keeping us safe!

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room as the view is better because you can see over top of the parking garage ac...

“Nice and reasonably priced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Wow, there are a lot of second rate hotels in this area, but Radisson New London is really nice. Our room had a sleep number mattress, fridge and microwave, marble bathroom. The General Manager went out of his way to please. This is the place you want to be if you're visiting New London (or any nearby town).

“Not good at all”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

Stayed for one night. First off internet wasn't working which was a problem for us as we only book hotels which have internet so we can make our next nights reservation. No one seemed to care that it wasn't working and not much effort was put into finding out why. Ended up having to drive to a Maccas with free wifi. Secondly staff were not very knowledgable about local attractions, other guests ended up helping us with our enquiries as no one at the desk could help. Thirdly and most annoying was that we were charged on our credit card for an expense that we did not incur and when they put through a refund it was less that the amount charged. Have emailed hotel about this and have had no response at all. Dodgy!

Only thing saving this hotel were the comfty beds which were adjustable. Don't bother staying here!

“Creepy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

This hotel was in transition when we stayed there for a conference in New London, having been bought by new management but not yet run by them. The room was pretty shabby, with obvious neglect like peeling wallpaper and a lamp with a large hole in the side of the base. In general it felt run down and a little creepy, and the staff, while friendly, seemed overwhelmed and confused by changing policies. There's not a lot to choose from in New London, but I'd steer clear given the option.
