“Moldly Getaway”

We reserved the "gate house" which is supposedly their best room. It has a wood fireplace and mirrored jacuzzi. The photos on-line are beautiful. Don't be fooled. Not only was it pricey but the bathroom door wouldn't slide closed. The furniture was ancient and the area around the jacuzzi needs replacement. It smelled like mold so we opened the windows. That didn't help at all. I started to have an asthma attack. We went to the front desk and they showed us another room near the check-in area....it was worse. Then they showed us a room at the mansion. That room had obviously been sprayed with frebreeze to cover the mold seconds before we got there to view it. My husband has allergies to perfumes so he started to tear up. We finally gave up and got a refund and stayed at a lovely little place down the road.

Room Tip: Don't go here if you have allergy or asthma, mold is terrible

“management not fit to run a motel 8 !!!!”

If you are considering a wedding here i highly recommend looking elsewhere. While most hotels in mystic are thrilled to discuss wedding plans with you and are excited to share in planning your day, erin and jodi at the inn at mystic are rude, dismissive and shockingly impossible to work with. Furthermore, they are seemingly unable to give straight answers, resulting in weeks of wasted time. I can only imagine how this hotel would treat its guests once they actually have the business if this is their idea of charming potential clients. Advice: look elsewhere. we've had really wonderful experiences with other places in the area.

“Nice location bad hotel”

After staying at the Boston Sheraton we stayed here for two nights on the second leg of our New England trip. Really disappointed with our room which probably hasn't been decorated since they had their famous honeymooners visit. Only saving grace was the view overlooking the river. Breakfast and afternoon tea is fairly mediocre and the entire place needs a good overhaul-peeling paint everywhere. Don't believe what's on their website.

Room Tip: Look for another hotel!

“Inn at Mystic needs work”

Well, it's not that we had a bad time. The Inn is easy to find, well located (10 minutes walk from the downtown), and the staff are nice enough. The restaurant is actually quite good, and the afternoon tea is delightful. And of course I haven't seen ALL the rooms. But our room was quite dated, even worn. It's also more a "motel" than an Inn in arrangement, at least in the portion we were in. Climate control was good. Our room was very quiet at night. Bed was not comfortable, and tended to sag toward the middle, as sign of age.
But the overall effect is one of not getting value for the relatively high price paid here. This is more a fine restaurant with a down-scale motel attached, than as "Inn."
With renovation to justify the prices, this could become a fine establishment.

Room Tip: Don't know. Perhaps you could view several types of rooms and see what you're willing to pay...

“Wedding disaster”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We just attended a wedding on the property. It was in the mansion which was expanded with tents. I was never so cold at an event as I was there. Not to mention, the tents leaked! Many people resorted to wearing their coats. Yes, we did have a noreaster that day, but that was expected far enough in advance that heaters could of been rented or borrowed, not to mention, it is the end of October, this should have been planned for. The manager, who was dressed like she was the gardener, was snippy and unhelpful. One diner was even told she could not take home her meal, which she hardly touched, that it was against the law! (Give me a break!) Finally, the newly married couple was disturbed in their room by the manager banging on their door that night, demanding payment for an addition to the alcohol bill. They were not responsible for the bill, it was their wedding night. Not to mention half the people there did not drink, so it is a mystery as to how that bill was beyond what was contracted for. We felt so badly for our friends. This was a day that was suppose to be perfect, despite the weather, the Inn did not go out of their way one bit to see that it was. Heck, the manager's attire demonstrated her lack of respect for the event. Shame on them!!!!!!!!!
