“Only reason to stay here is its location...”

We went to Mystic for new year eve with another couple friend. Whaler's Inn was one of the few places where there were rooms available and the reviews were not too bad, so we made the reservation. Overall I was not very happy with the stay quality vs the prices they charge. Here are pros and cons of staying here:
Pros:
1) Excellent location: Whaler's inn is right in the downtown area and all the good restaurants, drawbridge and boardwalk is few steps away.
2) Parking: They have a decent sized parking lot and parking is free.
3) Front desk people were very pleasent and supportive.

Cons:
1) Breakfast was boring. We took one look and decided to move out for breakfast.
2) Room walls are paper thin. We could hear a guy snoring next door at night. That was horrible.
3) Rooms are poorly lit. We had room #26 and our friends had #28 in the main building. Ours was absolutely dark. There were only 2 small side table lamps and we had to struggle to find stuff out of our suitcase.
4) Floors were creaky. So every time someone moved in corridor, we could feel the ground shaking.
5) Beds were very uncomfortable. It was a problem in both the rooms we had.

There are lot of other options around this area that might be better. For a small town like Mystic, I believe even if the hotel is not in downtown, that should not matter as most of the places are within walking distances.

Room Tip: Avoid room #26 in the main building.

“Family Christmas 2011”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

Great experience after moving away from area 30 years ago. The room was nice and the staff was very accommodating, making sure we were set up with extra towels and even putting together a nice goody bag for Christmas morning breakfast since everything was closed for Christmas day. You can't beat the location as we could walk to just about anywhere we wanted. Our kids haven't stopped talking about our great vacation. Thank you.

“New England as it truly is...”

Charming old building houses this quaint, colonial inn. If you want glass elevators, stay in Boston. If you prefer the flavor of a New England seaport, stay at the Whaler's Inn. Rooms are charming and the cleanest you'll find anywhere. The proprietor, Mr. Prisby, has created a warm and welcoming environment. Service is excellent. Our four poster bed was exceptionally comfortable and the room was quiet. Conveniently located..walking distance to all things Mystic. Two thumbs up for this New England gem!

“Great Location - Old, but Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

As others have noted, this is a great location for walking around Mystic. The hotel is actually a collection of various buildings of different styles and vintages. We stayed in the Main Building on the third floor. This is a walk-up with no elevator. We took the advice of others and requested a corner room, which was quite spacious. The building is an old, wooden structure with lots of character (did not see any fire sprinklers.) Although it was clean and fairly comfortable, the furnishings and fixtures (TV, etc.) are well past their prime. There were not many guests when we were there, but I could still hear sounds from other rooms so I suspect it could be somewhat noisy during the peak season. The included continental breakfast was convenient, although mostly prepackaged foods. The staff was very friendly and responsive. Parking is very convenient in the courtyard. All in all an OK place, as long as you are not looking for high-end modern luxury.

Room Tip: Request a corner room on the upper floors for more space and daylight.
