“Very Merry Cozy Christmas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

From the young man who greeted us outside and helped with our luggage & car to the service and front desk staff, all were genuinely pleased to look after all the guests at this hotel. They had special holiday treats at the front desk with all the decorations and trimmings. They even left a small gift bag of goodies hanging on our doorknob Christmas morning. The room was clearn and the bed was very comfortable. The Armoury restaurant there makes THE best chowder and lobster salad. We will stay there again for family visits and recommend it to other family & friends.

Thank you very much for taking the time to tell us about your stay with us over the holidays. Our front desk team came up with the holiday door gifts as a way of celebrating the holiday's with a gift to every guest. The chef is known for his clam chowder and I will let him know that you are now a life long fan. Thank you again for staying with us.

“A great hotel topped off by top class personal service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I stayed at the Inn at Middletown for four nights whilst visiting Connecticut from the UK. I am an experienced traveller, having stayed in hotels in many parts of the world. The room I was given looked out over the main entrance and had every facility that I required. In fact I could not find fault with any aspect of the hotel's service offering. What really made my stay was the personal service give by the staff including Bryan at front-of-house. This is where a hotel such as the Inn can score over the more anonymous hotel chains. I will certainly visit the Inn again when I next visit the area.

I stayed at the Inn few times during business trips, and always found the hotel very clean and inviting. The staff is nice, and the food is good. I never had any issues and will stay again at this hotel.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We stayed at the Inn for the celebration of Midnight on Main. From the beginning, we were disappointed. Valet service was to be included in the package we purchased...the valet offered to park our car on the street for us????? The package also included dinner/tax/tip.
Service was slow, the wait staff appeared uninformed about the details of the package, and the meal was only mediocre. The four course meal included dessert. Our waiter brought three desserts for 10 people to share! The billing became a nightmare of back and forths with the hotel and my credit card company. At one point we charged almost double the actual package price. I spent hours trying to resolve the issues. The hotel finally honored the package as it was promoted, but offered nothing for our trouble, not even an apology. We would not recommend this Inn.

Thank you for taking the time sharing your experience with us. On behalf of all of the staff at the Inn we are very sorry for the poor overall experience you went through on New Years Eve. I have discussed this review with every department and I am sorry you walked away with the perception that we do not care. We are better then that and you deserved more. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss your experience in more detail. I would like to possible change your perception of the Inn.

“it costs a lot for what it is, and the service can be haughty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

I've stayed here about two dozen nights over the past year, and what is most disappointing about this hotel is the fact that they don't want to remember you. There is no frequent stayer discount, the Wesleyan University parental discount is ludicrously low, the gym is depressing, and the service can be plain arrogant. That said, it's the best hotel in town, and the closest to campus. If you need to be available to your college student son or daughter (as in, they might have an illness, and Wesleyan's capacity to deal with illness is little more than wave good-bye, as in "get out, because we don't know how to deal with you"), then you have to stay here, plain and simple. Be prepared for indifferent or patronizing service. Just like the school itself!

Room Tip: As for a 'corner' room.

Thank you for taking the time to respond on trip advisor. It truely disturbs me that the level of our service has not met your expectations as it is one area that we are extremely proud of. I will share this with my team and look at way of improving any negative perceptions. I will also forward your comments to the university so that they also may see how they are being percieved. Thank you again for your comments and hopefully we will make any future visit to our hotel a more memorable one.
