“Won't be back - misled by reviews. Dirty room, false fire alarms....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

Stayed for two nights on the basis of favorable TA reviews and wanting to try an Extended Stay property as a change from the other hotel chains. We checked in late at night and found our room to be badly prepared. Neither bed had fresh sheets on them, the carpet had not been vacuumed and had food scraps around the place, the bathroom floor and surfaces were also dirty - scraps of cookies and hair. One pillow had no pillowcase and the smoke detector was taped up. The beds are old, creaky and uncomfortable, and several power sockets did not function. The next day the room was cleaned after we requested the housekeeper to do so.

The next morning just after 6 we were woken by the fire alarm and along with the other guests we evacuated the building. Three fire trucks came but thankfully it was nothing more than someone;s cooking setting off the alarm. This would not have been so bad had the same thing not happened again early the next morning.

Even at the price we paid this was not good value. The standard of cleanliness - both in the public areas and inside the room, leave much to be desired. The room is actually not that big - more like average-sized. There is no closet but there is hanging space and a couple of small metal shelves. Ironing board and iron are provided, as is a hair-dryer, but no soap or shampoo. The kitchenette is small and fitted out with just the basics, although the fridge is large but noisy - probably due to its age.

We were relieved to check out and be on our way.

“Great staff, clean hotel, big rooms!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2011

Moved from another hotel to this one after a relocation to CT from NJ. I didn't regret the move at all! The hotel is super clean and the staff is super friendly. Any request I needed was immediately handled. The rooms are a great size, the hotel is quiet, despite all the construction workers who stay there. Wireless is a one time fee of $4.99 for your stay, for as many computers as you have (not $4.99 per computer) and the access is fast and dependable. Although it is basically no frills, no restaurant/gym/pool, it is an excellent value for the long term resident and I highly recommend it for anyone who needs kitchen facilities during a relocation or a long term stay.

“Exceptional hotel, amazing service, fantastic all-around value.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

My wife and I love this hotel! We have visited this property a few times and always feel right at home. We travel a lot in many countries but when in Connecticut visiting family this is our favorite. The service is amazing, the staff is really dedicated to making the guests as comfortable as possible. The manager frequently takes the time to see that we are happy with our room and wants to know if he can do anything to make it better. Whether our request is additional towels or a restaurant recommendation he's right there giving his full attention.
The rooms are wonderful, well-equipped kitchens very useful. The layout is simple but with ample space. Great multiple light sources. Several individual lamps on both sides of the room make attaining the proper illumination easy. Great for me because I love to read. Nice bathrooms. Plenty of towels of all sizes. Housekeeping keeps the place very clean. And the housekeeper, too, always asks to see if we are okay with the room.
Superb location. Not only is the hotel close to highways, but tucked back with a lovely view of trees at the same time. We have now visited in the summer and winter, and whether green or white- a great view of nature makes a difference. Provides for a fine backdrop when we go for a walk/run. I run, my wife walks for the record. Very tranquil hotel inside and out. The on-site laundry is very convenient. With this hotel's attention to detail and excellent price it's a fantastic all-around value.

“Great Value, Convinced, I switched from Marriott to Extended StayAmerica.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2010

I have been a Marriott Silver member for many years. In fact when we visited CT in our previous three visits, we stayed at a Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott and Resident Inn with costs $100-140/nite.. This is where we found out about Extended StayAmerica Meriden because it was next door to the Resident Inn Meriden.

On our very next visit to CT we stayed at Extended Stay America Meriden and found the accommodations to be an incredible value. It had a microwave, stove, full size refrigerator A/C and lots of room to move around and layout our luggage. We saved over 40% on what it would have cost at the Resident Inn. When we needed things like towels, soap, etc, it was free and easy to get and there was a laundry facility on the site for our dirty clothes. We were so impressed that we had the manager, Steve, book us rooms at Extended StayAmerica in Rhode Island, Newark, NJ, and Philadelphia on another leg of our trip. Checking the internet, we found he got us the same or in two cases, a better deal than if we booked it ourselves. This is the best kept secret and I have switched to make Extended StayAmerica my first choice when traveling on vacation. The locations are nearby most major hotel chains, but the savings and value are worth it to look into.

Another possibility in the future is to use Extended StayAmerica for my college age student if he plans to stay in CT for an internship during the summer months. The monthly rate is even better.
