“Good Enough, Nothing Special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

The night manager was excellent, friendly and accomodating. Lots of smokers hanging out at the entrance which made for unpleasant entry into the building. Silverware was spotty, the mattress on the bed is on the verge of needing to be replaced and the tv was 13 inches small-very surprising! The desk and chairs were comfortable. Got to check out Huxley's Bookmark Cafe, east on E. Main St--lovely live pianist while eating good food with friendly service. The American Steak joint across the street was barely so-so- really a disappointment in the beef department but the buffet bar with salad was good.
Lots of noise on the facade of the building facing the street. Lots of men walking around in robes and pj's which I found odd. I probably wouldn't stay again but if you had to for one or two nights it is tolerable and at $69 per night, Remember that PETS are welcomed, good for some, not so good for those of us who have pet allergies.

“Very comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

I just spent one night, but this would be a very comfortable place to be for an extended stay. It is a mini-suite with a kitchen, so you can prepare your own food. It was comfortable and roomy and the staff was friendly and helpful. I'll definitely stay here again the next time I'm in this area.

I checked into this hotel property June 2, 2010 for 3 nights and had an excellent experience. The front desk person named Craig was top notch. Quick, courteous check in and he assured my every need was taken care of immediately. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the kitchen was an nice feature. I would recommend this hotel to anyone !

“Good value for a decent stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2010

My wife and I stayed at Candlewood Suites on our way to Maine. It was a good value for a decent stay. It was pouring down rain during our stay so that probably diminished our outlook on our stay in Meriden.

“Hot water on demand must not be part of the package”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2009

Checked in on a Saturday and stayed until the following Sunday. There was not one day during my stay that I was not without hot water at some point. For the first few days the front desk staff used the “part has been ordered” excuse, later in the week it changed to “you must run the water for 10 or 15 minutes before it gets hot”… which I can assure you was not the case. I think the most frustrating thing about the sporadic lack of hot water was not the inconvenience but rather that I was NOT told about this issue when I checked in nor was there any apparent remorse on behalf of the staff that its guests were being inconvenienced. In fact, at one point I was asked what time I needed to be at my event in the morning… this was so the desk clerk could tell me when would be a good time to shower!!!! I was offered $5 off on my daily rate for a few of the days that I was there however not the entire trip. The only thing I found remotely good about this hotel was its location as it is right off of I-91 and close to several of the major towns. As far as rating the room I feel like I can not give a rating more than 1 out of 5 due to the hot water problem as well as the warped and sagging floors. My dishwasher was not bolted to the counter so when loading it the entire unit would tip forward as if it were going to fall out of the cabinet. The bathroom linens were made of some type of fluffy Berber carpet material and smelled of smoke which is unfortunate as I requested a non-smoking room. I killed spiders in my room on three occasions leading me to believe there is some type of bug issue. The television was a older model 19” or 22” that had a very loud buzz that come from the back of the unit once it got hot and did not go away. The cable is through a satellite cable provider and several of the channels had reception issues… not sure if that is the provider or the distribution of the signal to the rooms. The parking lot is poorly lit and there is never someone at the front desk ready to help, you must call “0” and ask for them to come to the desk.
