I was given the room that was in the same building as the restaurant. As soon as I walked in the room smelled of smoke from the fireplace. The room was dark and dreary and the bathroom was from the 1950's. When I took a shower, the water turned off 4 times and there was little hot water.The staff were surly. I stayed one night and left for a quailty inn that seemed like the Taj Mahal. Avoid this place!

Looking for a place open for dinner on Christmas Day, we were lucky to find the Tollgate Inn Restaurant. The food was marvelous, creative and delicious. The service was excellent and the setting was storybook charming. What a wonderful surprise and a place we will now frequent and tell our friends about.

In the fall the Tollgate Hill Inn and restaurant are an idyllic setting in a New England town. Nestled in Litchfield, Connecticut, the inn is a historic property with a cozy restaurant on the grounds. Our room could have used a bit of updating, one of the beds had a loose board and my friend slept on a slant all night. Other than that, I would highly recommend this inn and restaurant. The food was great and the ambience couldn't be better. Be sure to visit nearby Kent State Park with an awesome waterfall and hiking trails, and the village of Kent has some wonderful shops.

Tollgate Hill Inn was exactly what I was looking for! I went for a one night stay during the week to get away from my crazy and very noisy life. When I arrived I was greeted by the inn keeper. She was very friendly and helpful. After showing me to my room, she made several recomendations for dinner. My room was both comfortable and quiet. I highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a quiet retreat.
