i travel a lot and this hotel, on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best, i rate it at a 2.
since Hamden has only 2 hotels, the Clarion Suites and the Day's Inn, i choose the later. it was $77 vs $140.
the hotel is run by East Indians and it has an Indian odor to the whole hotel. i always wanted to go to India, so i figured this is a good lead in to the aroma of that country and lo and behold, i survived.
the cosmetics of the hotel needs to be refreshed.
i was put on the 2nd floor, which is newer than the ground floor. the room was large, king bed, sofa bed, tv, bathroom and a good room temperature control.
all was very clean and the towles were plush. the hairdryer didn't work and there was no carafe for the complimentary room coffee.
the other downside was that the hotel is located on rt 10, a high traffic road. the traffic sound was bearable and all was ok for a good night's sleep, after a hot and soothing bath.
the continental breakfast was meager, as only white Wonder bread, packaged oatmeal, oranges and apples were served. there was regular coffee, but no decafe, juices from a machine (how long ago were the machine's lines cleaned...yugh!). i took some fruit for the road and left it at that.
i stayed on a Saturday night and the place was 3/4 full, so people do stay there.
summary: if you need a one night stay, it's ok, but don't expect too much. if you detest the aroma of East Indian food, then forget it!
