“Don't expect a lot.....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2008

i travel a lot and this hotel, on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best, i rate it at a 2.

since Hamden has only 2 hotels, the Clarion Suites and the Day's Inn, i choose the later. it was $77 vs $140.

the hotel is run by East Indians and it has an Indian odor to the whole hotel. i always wanted to go to India, so i figured this is a good lead in to the aroma of that country and lo and behold, i survived.

the cosmetics of the hotel needs to be refreshed.

i was put on the 2nd floor, which is newer than the ground floor. the room was large, king bed, sofa bed, tv, bathroom and a good room temperature control.
all was very clean and the towles were plush. the hairdryer didn't work and there was no carafe for the complimentary room coffee.

the other downside was that the hotel is located on rt 10, a high traffic road. the traffic sound was bearable and all was ok for a good night's sleep, after a hot and soothing bath.

the continental breakfast was meager, as only white Wonder bread, packaged oatmeal, oranges and apples were served. there was regular coffee, but no decafe, juices from a machine (how long ago were the machine's lines cleaned...yugh!). i took some fruit for the road and left it at that.

i stayed on a Saturday night and the place was 3/4 full, so people do stay there.

summary: if you need a one night stay, it's ok, but don't expect too much. if you detest the aroma of East Indian food, then forget it!

“A God Forsaken Place, the worst”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2007

I can't say enough negative things about this place. They were quick enough to give us a different room 2 minutes after we saw what they gave us. Our stay there was a 2 nighter. The smell that just jumped at us when we opened the door was incredible and the carpetting had stains from who knows what. The bed was the most uncomfortable to the point that it felt like pencils were placed between the mattress and sheets. Early the next day, we left the hotel to do what we were in CT to do. We returned at about 11pm only to find out that our keys (those plastic cards) no longer worked in the door to our room. We had to buzz to get into the lobby of the "hotel" and when someone finally came, they acted like we inconvenienced them!!! It was absolutely the worst place that I have ever stayed in with the rudest staff. You should all do yourselves a favor and pitch a tent before ever staying at this dump.

“Awful hotel!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2007

This was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at! The room was smelly, we had to have the window open until we went to bed and it still didn't help. There was somebody's hair all over the floor in the bathroom. The staff was very unfriendly. Also, the breakfast was awful. stale bagels and the cream cheese was warm and therefore bad. we ended up eating breakfast somewhere else. Dont stay here!!!

“Absolutely Terible!!!”

We had the misfortune to stay here one night. The room was in a decrepit state: Walls dented, paint chipped on door & woodwork, etc. It looked as though someone had had a brawl in the room recently.
The staff were rude and very inhospitable. Any question was met with a mumbled response.
The "Days Inn Corp." would do themselves a favor by cancelling this franchise as it makes one wary of other hotels in this chain.

“Hated it!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2005

This hotel was below average, particularly since it was more expensive than one would expect.

It was very, very noisy as it was situated right near a busy highway. It was very small and not that clean, and the staff were not helpful. I would not recommend it, nor will I stay there again.
