“Best Days Inn Ever!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

If you find yourself in Hamden, Ct or surrounding areas, this is the best all around, best priced Days Inn hotel I've ever stayed in. Extremely clean, friendly, helpful staff. I was able to check in early (which we all know can be hard,) and was overall happy with everything.

I work in the music industry and have stayed in Intercontinental Hotels that weren't this comfortable (and of course some real dogs too,) but what a pleasant surprise. Make sure to pay Paul a visit if you can!

“Thank you for a wonderful stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2011

We went to Hamden to visit our daughter and her family for a week. Our son-in-law booked this room for us. We were NOT disappointed. For a week, we stayed in a suite that was so big and comfortable that we could put everything out of sight and feel like we were at home. Loved opening the curtains and watching people on the hiking/biking trail behind us. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Yes, we will stay there again on our next trip there. Was very surprised and pleased to see the General Manager working the front desk. He was GREAT!

“NAAAASTY”

My girlfriend booked a room here several months in advance for her parents for graduation weekend. We specifically requested a non-smoking room, but when we arrived to check in the first night, the "non-smoking" room absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke. Actually, it was far worse than that, it was cigarette smoke that had obviously been covered up with cheap, foul-smelling air freshener. It was absolutely disgusting. I'd rather sleep in a room full of black mold and cat feces. At least doctors know how to treat you for that. If we'd known the non-smoking room was a smoking room, we'd have booked another hotel (and there plenty available at the time).

We complained to the owner that this was not what we had asked for, but said we'd stay there if he gave us a discount (since we didn't feel like looking for another room that late). In a brazen display of unmitigated gall, he patently refused, and told us in no uncertain terms that yup, people smoked in that room, but since he labelled it a "non-smoking" room then that was our problem, not his. I'm dead freaking serious about this: *The manager told us that people smoked in his non-smoking rooms and if we didn't like it that was our tough luck.*

He was rude and arrogant the entire time, and refused to let us leave to find another hotel without completely checking out first, which we did forthwith. He even had the gall to tell us that people loved his hotel, since otherwise, why would it be booked full? (Maybe because it's graduation weekend, and he's one of the only games in town?) Ultimately, her parents slept on an air mattress on the floor of my tiny little apartment. But at least they stayed in a place that wasn't unhealthy to sleep in.

So what can I say? Nasty and disgusting. And I'm not just talking about the owner! Do not under any circumstances stay in this dingy, god forsaken hell hole. You're better off squatting in an abandoned house or sleeping in a gutter.

Since we made this reservation using http://hotels.com, it was non-refundable. However, http://hotels.com negotiated a refund with the owners, and they said they're going to investigate this matter further.

“Don't expect a lot.....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2008

i travel a lot and this hotel, on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best, i rate it at a 2.

since Hamden has only 2 hotels, the Clarion Suites and the Day's Inn, i choose the later. it was $77 vs $140.

the hotel is run by East Indians and it has an Indian odor to the whole hotel. i always wanted to go to India, so i figured this is a good lead in to the aroma of that country and lo and behold, i survived.

the cosmetics of the hotel needs to be refreshed.

i was put on the 2nd floor, which is newer than the ground floor. the room was large, king bed, sofa bed, tv, bathroom and a good room temperature control.
all was very clean and the towles were plush. the hairdryer didn't work and there was no carafe for the complimentary room coffee.

the other downside was that the hotel is located on rt 10, a high traffic road. the traffic sound was bearable and all was ok for a good night's sleep, after a hot and soothing bath.

the continental breakfast was meager, as only white Wonder bread, packaged oatmeal, oranges and apples were served. there was regular coffee, but no decafe, juices from a machine (how long ago were the machine's lines cleaned...yugh!). i took some fruit for the road and left it at that.

i stayed on a Saturday night and the place was 3/4 full, so people do stay there.

summary: if you need a one night stay, it's ok, but don't expect too much. if you detest the aroma of East Indian food, then forget it!
