Very disappointing ! Can't believe I left my clean house to stay in such filth . My husband ran out to buy bleach to clean the disgusting bathroom, which had urine on the walls, and Febreeze to cover up the God awful stench that hit us even before we entered the hotel .We are still airing out our bags to rid of this moldy/mothbally smell . Ordered and paid for 2 Queen size beds and walked in to 2 full beds . The hotel said that they were out of Queen beds and refused to reimburse us for the difference . Spent our 1st hour of the trip on hold with Expedia, to fight for our $$$ back. Had to call them back the following day so that they could speak to the manager, who refused to talk to them that night . Was misled by Expedia, who aid they had a casino in the hotel, (which was actually 15 mins. away). Also was misled by the "complimentry breakfast", whcih consisted of canisters of old cereal and urns of old coffee, in one of the guest rooms . Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else !!! Should have spent an extra $100 a night and stayed at the Mariott !

My husband and I were going to a concert at Foxwoods, and decided to stay in the area on the night of July 31st. We were desperate for a room, so we went through Priceline, named our own price, and were the "lucky" winners of HoJo in Groton for $97. We then checked Tripadvisor reviews, got scared, and found that we were locked in due to the fact that we had used Priceline's name your own price feature - no refund to be had. We prepared for battle and brought sleeping bags, pillows, long sleeved pants and shirts and socks to sleep in, and Fabreeze. I noticed the funky smell to the place as soon as we set foot in the door. The man at check-in was nice and cheerful, but that was the only bright spot. Our "non-smoking" room reeked of stale cigarettes, and in general was very stuffy, dusty. It ust looked as if nothing had been disturbed (aka cleaned) in a very long time. Someone with allergies would not fare well here. My husband thought it was hysterical to see me spraying Fabreeze all over the place to try and mask the funk. There were mystery stains on the carpet and chairs, iron burns on the floor and walls, and dead bugs on the bathroom floor. I didn't bother looking in the bathtub, because based on previous reviews we wouldn't be showering there anyway. We placed our sleeping bags and pillows on top of the bed so we wouldn't have to touch anything or get under the covers......I think I actually slept better that night because of it! The next morning we got up early and got the hell out. The other reviews on this site are not exaggerations. I've stayed at all sorts of hotels from 1-5 stars. I'm not picky, and it really takes a lot for me to say "awful," but HoJo was definitely that bad. If you don't mind staying at the Bates Motel, then go right ahead and do so, but if you're just a normal person looking for a hotel and this is your last resort, do yourself a favor and go camping or sleep in your car instead.

Had a concert to go to at Foxwoods, and wanted to stay over in the area for a reasonable price. On a Saturday night, not the easiest thing to do. So I used good old Priceline... and this abomination of a hotel came up. of course being locked in, we had no choice to stay here... but after reading several horrible reviews on this place, we came prepared, with sleeping bags, plenty of Febreze, etc. Check in and check out was simple enough, and the staff behind the desk were very nice, so I do not have any complaints there. That's where the good ends. Up our stairs to our "non-smoking" room... The hallway smells like dead smoke and is just very stuffy overall... same inside the room. The goodies we had awaiting us in our room were iron burn marks on the ironing board, floor, and wall... plenty of nice little stains on the carpet, and a pileof dead bugs behind the toilet. me and my wife didn't even unmake the bed to see what might be in there, we just layed our sleeping bags on top and slept fully clothed as to not touch anything. We've stayed at probably 100+ hotels together, from 5 star, to 1 star... and it really takes a lot to get me upset, but this might possibly be the WORST room we've ever had. Please, by all means, stay away... You're better off sleeping in your car or camping outside if need be.

We booked this hotel on short notice-Had a concert @ Mohegan sun and unfortunately our options were quite limited so we had to stay @ Hojo. I by no means am a 5 star hotel traveler and my expectations are not all that high, so when I say a place is terrible that means it's that-TERRIBLE. The price wasn't even good for the quality of room we got-our room cost $170.00 and for that I would have expected much more. Where do I start...I requested a NON smoking room. When I go to check in, the guy at the front desk lies and says "You requested a smoking room." That lie worked until I showed him the reservation on my iphone where I asked for a NON smoking room. Then he just laughed to which I said, "no what your saying is that all you have is smoking rooms, not that i asked for one." So my boyfriend and I went to the room. Before we can swipe the key card in our door my boyfriend put a little pressure on the door and poof! The door opens without a key! Great feeling. We go get the guy at the front desk who seemed to be the only staff working there and he clicks something in on the side of the door and it doesn't open on a light push anymore. What a great feeling. However, he then runs away and then our key card won't work, so we have to flag him down again to fix that. Meanwhile, the couple checking in across the hall from said that they had a wet washcloth in their bathtub. Gross. It was impossible to ignore the nasty smoke/mildew/god knows what else smell that permeated in the lobby and in the hallway like a thick oppressive fog. The hotel room offered no relief whatsoever. It smelled like an old ashtray, it did not appear that they did anything to deodorize the smoke smell. The bathroom door looked as if it had been kicked in at some point for god knows what reason and was shoddily patched up. I have never gotten ready so fast in my life for the sake of getting out of there. Within an hour of being in that room both my boyfriend and I had sore throats and our allergies were acting up. Almost a week later now and I'm finally feeling better. The most depressing part of the evening was knowing it was time to go to bed, hence to our hotel. The only good thing I can say is that the bed was surprisingly comfortable, but I would not recommend sleeping in it without a full layer of clothing on. the lamps were also noted to have cobwebs in them and a nice layer of dust. Like i said before I've stayed in a large variety of hotels, including the Super 8 variety and it doesn't take much to keep me happy. This place takes the cake of being the worst hotel I've stayed in. Take this as a warning and book elsewhere. And if you're in my situation and this is the only hotel available, do yourself a favor and sleep in your car!!
