We came to the Howard Johnson because we were going to Foxwoods for the weekend. At check in, the gentlemen was very polite. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met while checking into a hotel. He asked us over and over again if we needed directions anywhere, explained the area very well, and made sure that our request for more pillows was completed. He also informed us that a brand new bed had just been placed in our room. The bed was great. The room was your basic hotel room. There was a fridge, microwave, mini coffee pot, safe, couch, table, tv, etc. I will admit, there were a few burn marks on the carpet and you could tell someone had dropped a hot iron on the floor once. The microwave was very old, but honestly, who uses the microwave at a hotel. The A/C/Heater worked great. The room did have an older look to it, but for $48 a night (over the weekend) what do you expect. The Howard Johnson is a place that you get what you pay for. If you're looking for a 5 star hotel, with all the extra's don't stay here. If you are looking for a low price place to stay for a few days, it is great. I will admit on the 3rd night we could hear other people next door to us. Once again, you get what you pay for. The last night there the vending machine outdoors ate my money and I spoke with the man at the front desk. He was polite enough to give me a soda from his own personal fridge. The problem with a lot of people at hotels is that if you treat the staff poorly, they will treat you poorly. I established a great relationship with the front desk staff and they made our stay feel like we were at a 5 star resort. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Anyone that truly gives a bad review here probably expected to be staying at a 5 star hotel. Once again, you get what you pay for. Whenever we make trips to foxwoods again, we will be staying here. As far as people saying there is a bad odor, I would disagree. I didn't smell anything while being at the hotel. Could the rooms be upgraded, yes, but you would pay a lot more then what you pay now. I also read how people were complaining about breakfast. They have bagels, toast, cereal, donuts, juice, milk, coffee. Overall, I give this place a fantastic review because of the great staff and the price at which you pay.
Room Tip: Establish a relationship with the front staff.
