“Knights Inn/Groton is a Diamond in the Rough -- great prices/Manager Shah- terrific!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

Great access off 95/route 1 -- close to ocean/attractions/restaurant choices/casinos.
Large Clumbs of decorative grass surround this motel-Shah greets ALL with his friendly smile/winning personality/patience to answer details about the area!! Rooms all have large color/cable TV/Microwave/good sized Regrigerator -- Air Cnditioning -- screened large window -- lots of very tall trees surround the property - Free continental breakfast: coffee/juice/bagels/donuts to start the day!! Wendy is the night manager and the housekeeping staff is quite accomodating!
The price is wonderful -- A shoreline diamond in the rough on a weekend where every place was booked for the Mystic Art Show and all the other special summer events!!
I would definitely recommend the hotel and return soon!! Thank you Shah and Wendy!!
Bonnie from Manhattan.

“Traveler B E W A R E OF THE BEDBUGS!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2010

My husband and I decided to visit Misquamicut Beach in Westerley, RI. We were unable to book a room at a, what we felt to be, a reasonable price. We settled upon the Knights Inn in Groton, CT. because it was not only a short drive to the beach we were headed to but it was also close to Mystic, Foxwoods Casino and the Mohegan Sun.

I was not expecting a 5 star or even a 2 star hotel for that matter after reading the reviews on various websites about this particular hotel but I also was not expecting what we ended up with. There was no Continental breakfast (but we could live with that), and the towels were thin and the TV's color/contrast was off, very dark but again, compared to our ordeal, these were minor issues.

Upon arrival, my immediate thoughts were "this is nothing more than a motel but so be it. It's only for a couple of nights". Walking in, my allergies were immediately compromised. The room had been heavily smoked in and for me, it was intolerable. However, the error was on my part as I did not realized I booked a smoking room. After much going back and forth (my husband and the front desk), they did agree to switch our room. The room was on the second floor but that was fine as long as I could breath.

While in the new room (1st night), I jokingly said to my husband "maybe we should check for bedbugs". We didn't and went to sleep. 3:48AM my husband wakes up and says somethings biting me. I felt a sting on my arm and said I've been bit too but I saw mosquitoes in the room earlier when we opened to door to allow for fresh air. My husband decided to check the bed. To our shock and horror, there were BEDBUGS! After killing about 20, my husband decided to bag a few of them and show them to hotel mgmt. The manager was not in. The woman at the front desk (the same person who changed our room) said to my husband "there can't be bedbugs. Our exterminator guaranteed his work!". My husband said, well, here's the proof. You wanna hold on to them?!?. She said no. My husband felt our room should be changed but I did not want to go through the process of checking and killing again. Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep. Night 2, before going to bed we did another check which didn't show any bedbugs but we sensed there were more. We go to sleep, and once again awaken bitten (around 1am). By then, my husband decided to stay up on "bedbug watch" allowing my severely sleep deprived self to go to sleep. More, and more bedbugs. Large and small. Every hr I woke up feeling as if something was crawling on me. My husband never went to sleep and he was our driver home. Finally, at 5am, we decided to pack up and leave. I have never, ever in my life been so disgusted! It certainly makes me not want to travel anymore.

“Not such a bad place!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2010

A group of friends stopped here on the way home from Block Island RI. Having read the other reviews, I was expecting the worst.

This is a typical "traveler's stop" along Interstate 95. It's not luxurious; it's not meant to be!

The room was large and clean; the bathroom was also very clean. There could have been a few more towels, but we survived. The TV worked fine; we only had it on to check the weather forecast.

The desk clerk recommended the nearby "99 Restaurant" for dinner; it was quite good and not expensive. A waitress there recommended "The Shack" restaurant for breakfast, which was also quite good and reasonably priced.

A clock or clock radio would be a good addition to the room. And you have to ask at the desk for an iron.

I didn't have high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised with the facility.

“Very Good Value for travellers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

Nice location, less than 1 minute off I-95, but you can't hear traffic noise--from cars that is. Behind the motel, through a thin patch of woods, is the famous Northeast Corridor of Amtrak's high speed rail line! If you're a railfan, the trains pass every hour or so, unfortunately not at highest speed; It's too close to the New London station for that. Rooms are very large, a little plain, but fine. Fridge was nice surprise. No restaurant nor pool, but that's OK. We smoked cigars outside because I know other guests are fussy, but I could smell perfume and deodorant from previous guests in the restroom...maybe there should be a rule banning those people. All and All, a nice hotel, good price, and a plus for a railfan who is aware of their surroundings.

“OK, but need a clock”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2010

I stayed at the Knight Inn in Groton in mid-March 2010 while passing through Connecticut on Interstate 95. I checked in at 9pm and was given 10% AAA discount by the night clerk, which made the room rate more reasonable. The room was basic, larger than average, and clean (King bed, small fridge, microwave, TV) but no radio, and most importantly, no alarm clock (which is important to me when traveling - I'll explain later). TV had about 40 channels, including HBO.
The bathroom was adequate, hotwater was plentiful. There was a hairdryer near the sink. The air-conditioner / heater was powerful, but was situated at the back of the room, near the bathroom entrance, which meant the warm air took a while to get to the bedroom, but kept the noise down (it wasn't too loud). The king bed was made up. I recall the bedcover had a small tear.
My room was in the back and faced the Amtrak tracks. Trains ran by every few hours (I'm guessing 2 or so hours), but the room was quite well insulated from the noise and I wasn't woken up in the night by it. But if you are a lightsleeper, you might want to request a room facing away from the tracks.
I happened to met the manager/owner when checking out in the morning asked about the lack of a alarm clock. He was slightly defensive, saying the clock is not a requirement and guests could have called the front desk if they needed a wake-up call. The reason rooms should have a lighted alarm clock is when travelers wake up in the middle of the night in a strange room, they'll know the time, especially if they don't have a watch that lights up in the dark, or if it is nearby.
Overall, it was an OK, comfortable overnight stay (I'm not fussy). I was hoping the roomrate could have been slightly lower during low season.
