“Stay Away!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2009

Decided to travel to Mystic, CT for the weekend last minute. Everything in Mystic was booked. We got a room through a dot com company for booking hotels. The agent discovered this "great" hotel just outside Mystic in Groton, CT. We were told this was a three star hotel - price - $149/night. We decided to take it as it was our only option at that point. We arrived to find collapsing/demolished buildings on each side of the Inn, which was a really dirty, run-down motel. No one at the front desk so we used the phone to call management - waited 15 minutes for them to show up. Got into a conversation with the hotel manager and apparently this is an extended stay hotel, which is used by strippers and junkies. We saw a cab pick up a stripper who lived in the Inn on her way to work as well as several undesirable residents chilling with their room doors wide open. Against all judgement, we still booked the room. Only later to discover the room also had cockroaches crawling across the floor. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from this place!! It's filthy and it's populated by strippers and junkies!! Whatever agency rated this as a 3 star hotel needs to go to jail!!

There's a new Sheriff in Town! Thames Inn & Marina is now being managed by me, "Debra," the same manager that brought Rocky Neck Inn & Suites to # in Niantic on tripadisor.com (as of May 7th, 2010) I worked hard at RNIS, and I'm now working hard here to earn back your trust here at Thames Inn & Marina! It's not just the fresh paint and flowers; there's a new attitude and a professional staff at Thames Inn & Marina. :)

Although we're still a bit of "A Diamond in the Rough" on the outside, the new paint has been ordered and Debra's new staff is paying attention to details! Our rooms are not only spotless, they come complete with full kitchens! We're doing our best to earn your trust once again!

We have both nightly and weekly rates available. Also, we offer AAA, Senior, Military and Corporate discounts.

Join us and enjoy the twinkling lights at night over the Thames River. Dock your boat at our marina complete with electricity/cable TV. Grill outside, swing on the swing and watch the boats and submarines go up and down the river. Relax. No matter how hot and stuffy it is inland, there is always a gentle breeze coming in over the Thames!

Onsite, we have a 21 slip marina with daily fishing excursions available on "The Sea Otter." "The Hellcat" fishing boat leaves from the slip next door. Paul's Pasta is only a few doors down from us! (yum!)

We're courteous, professional, affordable,& convenient ly located to many attractions and businesses! Yes, there IS a new Sheriff in Town, and I'm excited to have been given the opportunity to earn back your trust!!! Hopefully, you'll join us and post your positive experience on tripadvisor.com! In fact, I'm counting on this!!!

Sincerely,
Debra

“Sailfest experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2008

What an awesome day Sailfest was! The hotel needs work but the manager is a doll! Fireworks were great and the food was too! Will definitely be back next year!

  • Liked — The manager is so nice and accomodated my wife's disability with no problem making sure we were ok!
  • Disliked — needs carpet and paint and general repairs

“Don't Even Bother! Not Worth Your Time!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2006

Booked this room through ---.com and it was very misleading!

We arrived at 8pm and there was a sign on the door to call a number to get into your room. Upon calling that number you got a answering machine, in which no one calls you back. After waiting 40 minutes we finally get a call back to be told we were not staying in the hotel but a house down the road.

What a nightmare!

The door was left unlocked for us to enter. The place had roaches. There were dirty rags on the floor. There were no shades in the windows and thin white curtains. Mind you there was two light posts right in front of the room we were in. So up all night with the light. There was a TV but you couldn't watch it from the snow all over the screen.

The neighbors played music so loud it sounded as if you were in there room until 2am. Parking is not secure as their site states as we had to park on the street in a half hour parking spot, at the location they put us in.

There is no continental breakfast, no internet, no laundry. This site is all lies.

It is not worth $10 a night never mind $60.

Please beware of this hotel. There are several nice ones in the same local area that Hotels.com does not deal with. Consider booking on your own and staying in one of the nicer ones!

“Horrible management”

Not worth the visit. Anyways, the Thames is more polluted from the Groton side from all the industry--Pfizer, EB, GE. The better view is from New London side.
