“Enjoyed our stay and breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

My partner and I needed a room for a night before a flight home from Hartford Bradley airport and the Dutch Iris Inn was perfect - close to the airport, comfortable accomodations and a sumptuous breakfast. Our hosts were very pleasant and showed us to our room and gave us some tips on the area. Our room was comfortable and included a comfortable queen sized bed. The historic property was decorated tastefully and enjoyed all the conveniences of the 21st century including wireless internet and cable television. In the evening there was complimentary ice cream in the freezer which guests could enjoy. For breakfast, we had a chilled strawberry soup with almond ciabatta french toast with pure maple syrup and bacon. I was offered an additional helping for breakfast which I didn't expect but couldn't refuse! Overall, a much better way to spend an evening than at a non-descript hotel. Stay here - you won't be disappointed.

“Excellent BB”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

First time at a BB and Dutch Iris Inn did not disappoint!! With the warm welcome and offer of local ice cream right when I stepped in - it was fabulous! Nancy is GREAT(!) at cooking up a lovely breakfast (almond crusted ciabetta bread french toast). The backyard was large and manicured well! Great experience with a beautiful picturesque setting. Will have to come back for sure!!

Room Tip: Clean, free gift and chocolates, nice amenities, sizeable tv with digital cable

“Dutch Iris Inn is the perfect 'kick back and relax' place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

My sister and I stayed for one night in the Dutch Iris Inn, a holiday present from my son. The incredible hospitality of innkeepers Nancy and Bill made us feel welcome from the moment we entered the inn--fire burning in the fireplace, oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies and tea/hot chocolate to greet us...what a perfect start to a perfect overnight experience!

The Inn was decorated in a lovely winter motif, with a lot of lovely little decorative touches and a bowl of Hershey's Kisses and sucking candies always available. Snowshoes sat at the entrance, inviting guests to take a trek around their property or to visit a local park or two nearby.

Nancy showed us around, noting the frig and microwave for guests' use, and highlighted some of the interesting history of the inn while escorting us to our room. Our 2nd floor room (Spring Garden Room) looked just like the web photo, with a super-comfortable king-sized bed, real fireplace (with easy-to-use Duraflame logs) and small but decent bathroom. Our room had a TV with cable, and the inn has internet access for those who must stay connected. Two sets of earplugs were left for us, since our room fronted the main road, but the nighttime noise on this country road was minimal.

Nancy showed us the menu book that she's put together, showing just about every eating establishment's menu within a 30 minute drive. (There are restaurants right in Granby if you want to stay local). My sister and I chose to drive to Northampton MA, a lively town about 30 minutes away, and Nancy gave us easy directions on how to get there and dinner suggestions. She grew up locally so is a native of the area with a wealth of information about just about anything you might want to know about where to eat, where to go, what to do, etc. If you plan ahead, there's lots to do in the day/evening within easy driving distance of quiet Granby--local plays, music events, shopping, etc.--so you can stay as local as you'd like or venture further out in the region.

Soon after we arrived, Nancy asked if we had any dietary restrictions and I explained my quirky eating habits. Nancy is a former chemist who loves cooking, which prompted her and her husband (who has a day job) to buy the inn 4 years ago--now Nancy gets to "indulge in" her passion for cooking and baking. She plans each meal a day ahead and takes the guests' needs into consideration (although there are always substitute items available for guests who don't want the special entree she's serving). Breakfast was wonderful—juice, blueberry soup to start, a marvelous baked breakfast burrito (mine was made specially to my dietary needs), a bit of fruit, and many coffee/tea selections to accompany our meal.

We look forward to going back again. Nancy and Bill were so accommodating, so ready to help--such gracious hosts--and it such a lovely inn to visit! I'll stick with a room with a king-sized bed, maybe opting for the room with a jetted tub next time. THank you, Nancy and Bill, for a wonderful
time.

“The Comforts of Grandma's House With The Romantic Beauty of the Countryside”

My husband and I headed up from New Jersey for some "leaf peeping". We had never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before, so didn't really know what to expect. In fact, I was literally googling "What to expect at a Bed and Breakfast", when I laughed to myself and decided to just go for it. We knew we wanted to go to Connecticut, we knew we wanted to see leaves, and we knew we wanted to make our first B&B stay a good one. Well, planning your trip two days beforehand doesn't allow for much choice. So we were so worried we were going to have nowhere to stay! I came across these wonderful reviews on Trip Advisor, and figured Dutch Iris would definitely not be available. Well, much to my surprise they had a last minute cancellation and would allow us to stay for just one night! We're so glad it worked out because it was a perfect match!

We arrived around 4:30 to a sweet note telling us where our room was. We stayed in the Victorian room. It was cozy, clean, and had fireplace with easy instructions. There were great little touches everywhere. Everything was clean, and so many little things made you feel so welcome.

We just relaxed in our rooms for a few hours, and headed out to dinner at Abigail's, recommended by their website (great food, but a little noisy, if you're wondering). We had a delicious dinner, and came back to our cozy, quiet, romantic room. Some of the rooms do face the road, so we were worried about the noise, but it ended up being fine. We slept wonderfully! I woke up and asked my husband how he slept, and he said, "Um. Great. I think that's why people stay in B&Bs. I've never slept that well in a hotel." We were awoken by the INCREDIBLE smell of Nancy's delicious breakfast. I must admit, I have high standards in the food department, and husband and I were nothing but impressed with the incredible breakfast!!! We had fruit and yogurt as the first course, and then a delicious blueberry/almond/breakfast thing (I don't even know what it's called, but it was GREAT)! We will definitely be returning! Thank you!

“A lovely inn!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

Our extended family stayed at the Dutch Iris Inn for 2 nights in October. Bill & Nancy were just wonderful hosts - not at all intrusive, but very informed about the Granby area and things to do. No detail is overlooked. The beds are comfortable, the windows and bathrooms brand new, everything was spotless and the inn had loads of country charm. The breakfasts were yummy, and there were always treats in the afternoon. They've attended to little details, like providing a "guest refrigerator" in the dining room. Some of the rooms face the "main" road, so ear plugs were provided. Just a charming place, and highly recommended.
