“Adequate, but not very nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011 via mobile

The lobby was very nice, but that's where it ended. The rooms were adequate and appeared to have been remodeled not too long ago. They felt a little dirty, especially the shower. The thing that threw me over was that they charge $0.35 per cup of coffee in the lobby! Everywhere else has free coffee, at least. It's ok if you need somewhere to stay, but don't go there expecting it to be nice.

“HORRIBLE PLACE! BETTER OFF SLEEPING IN YOUR CAR!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

We stayed here on August 5. 2011, for a billiards tournament, and have been fighting for a refund ever since. When we opened the door of the hotel room a horrible mildew smell took over! When we got in the room, my eyes immediately started watering. We called the front desk and told them we could not stay in the room since I have horrible allergies and asthma. The front desk clerk said there were no other rooms available and they were sold out. I then asked to speak to a manager, he said that no manager was on until the morning, and they would send maintenance to the room. The maintenance man showed up with a can of "Glade" air freshener!!!! UNREAL! I said this isn't going to get rid of the mildew smell and kill the mold. He literally turned and walked out of the room, leaving the can on the desk. We took our luggage, and left to stay with friends at a different hotel. We came back in the morning to speak with the manager. When the manager walked in the room she almost passed out. She said this is awful, and I'm going to make sure this room is not rented until it is cleaned up. We pointed out the mold on the wall and water and mildew on the rug. She said we will not charge you for the room. Three days later, a charge for the room appeared on my card. I have been disputing it ever since. I left numerous messages for the manager on her voicemail, as well as called the main number for the clarion. I disputed the charge with my bank, and after a month they claim the manager said I am responsible for the room, and my provisional credit was reversed. They said we "occupied the room for more than 4 hours and items in the room were used. This hotel is clearly a health hazard, and I will be reporting them to the board of health, as well as the better business bureau. KEEP AWAY!

Room Tip: Choose another hotel if you want a good room

“Poor Security and just dirty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

The room's safety lock was completely broken off the door. I reported it to the front desk and was told twice that she was sending someone to repair it. I waited 45 minutes and went to the front desk again to request either the door be repaired or be moved to another room. She picked up the phone and "suddenly" got through to someone to repair it. She was very busy "chatting" with another guest. I asked to be moved to a new room and she told me that "I had been in the room too long" What???? After 15 more minutes of waiting and another visit to the front desk a repair man appeared. He didn't have the right screws but managed to get the lock back on the door. I had to lean on it every time I closed it. Now, the dirty. Leaks/stains on the ceiling in the shower, cobwebs the length of the ceiling over the bed, an ugly tiny black stain on a pillow, and a long black hair in the ice bucket!! I reported the dirty ice bucket when I brought a cup to the front desk searching for ice and the clerk offered to replace the bucket. I probably would have waited an hour for that too. She also added that the ice machine was broken on the first floor and I would have to walk up to the second floor for ice. On the way back to my room I saw a large mass of ants by the door to the first floor.
The clerk asked me what time I would need the van for the airport the next morning and I arranged for a 7AM van. I stood in the cold and stared at an empty van parked in front of the hotel in full view of the hotel clerk at 7. At 7:05 I went into the lobby and told him I needed to catch my flight and where was the van? After waiting a few minutes a man/driver suddenly showed up. He looked like he had been sleeping. Why bother to arrange a time for the transport? I would have moved to another hotel if the door hadn't been fixed because it was unsafe. The other issues were annoying but it was so late and since the Ct storm had filled up all of the hotels I didn't think I would find another room. There is no excuse for the bad attitude and service at this Clarion. I will never stay at this hotel again. Shame on Clarion.

Room Tip: Stay on the first floor if you don't want to drag your bags up a flight of stairs.

“A place in a storm”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

The worst storm to hit Connecticut happened on Oct. 29, 2011. Some of CT is still without power as of today Nov. 7. We were "lucky" to have found a couple of rooms at the Clarion - which by the way - this property has been under many, many, many names. They were turning away people left and right, they had no phones, no tv, cable or hot water. They did have heat which is why we stayed. It was a place to stay warm and most of the staff at the hotel were nice enough under this kind of pressure except for one male desk clerk who was rude and threaten to raise our rates because we wanted to extend our stay by a couple of days - we were still without power. The housekeeping staff worked hard to keep up but even they can't transform this dump into a place I would recommend. Clarion needs to decide who they want to cater to - homeless people, out of state workers or families. Make that decision and move forward from there. Clean up those rooms, replace carpets and tubs or don't expect to see too many families using your place.

Room Tip: don't get a connecting room unless you are with that group. I had a connecting room and my neig...

“Terrible, terrible experience!! Do not stay here!”

We were in town to see a football game and did not have a good experience with this hotel. We arrived in our room to find a toilet clogged and full to the top of the bowl with feces in the water. The beds were messy and room had obviously not been properly cleaned and checked. We stayed for two days and the toilet never was fixed and we could not flush the toilet...lovely. The hotel rooms are dirty, old and run down. When they changed our beds they didn't change the pillow cases or the blanket and comforter. We had a great time at the fb game but the hotel experience of the trip was a disaster.
