“Ashamed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

I was totally blown away with the attitude and treatment I received at this hotel. I had reserved 2 rooms for the weekend of . When I arrived at the facility and told them I had reservations, the desk clerk told me under no circumstances could I check in until 3:00pm. I explained to her I had been driving all night, did she have anything available. She said no, they sold out the night before, and checkout was not until 11:00, and housekeeping did not start cleaning until 11:00. So that meant rooms would not be ready until at least 1:30 or 2pm. I told her I would come back, this happened at 9:00am. My husband and I went to get breakfast. As we were going around the building, I noticed there were a number of rooms that were not occupied. I proceeded to look in the windows, and the beds were made and it did'nt look as if anyone had slept in them all night. We went and ate breakfast, and returned to the hotel. I asked the same lady if she had anything available. Again, she told me no. I asked her was there any other hotels in the vacinity. She told me Motel 6 was up the road. I took offense to that because she acted like she did'nt want anyone of another nationality in the hotel, and she proceeded to tell me about a cheaper motel. She failed to mention, there was also a Holiday Inn, in the vacinity. I told her I wanted to cancel my reservations. At that point and time I felt like she did'nt want us in the hotel. I know there are still prejudice people in the world, but I saw it first hand with the desk clerk. I can truly say out of all the hotels I have been in, this was by far the worst treatment I have ever received. If she did'nt want another race of people in there, just tell me, you don't have to lie about not having any rooms. They need not worry, I will not be patronizing this hotel, as far as I'm concerned, it does not exist. One day, she will have to answer for her actions.

Room Tip: Don't stop here. If you are any other race, besides Caucasian, you are SOL!!!!!!!

Dear Guest,

We are sorry we were unable to accommodate you on the day you wished to check in. Unfortunately due to the snow storm we had in late October, our hotel was very busy and sold out for the day you wished to check in. I apologize that the front desk clerk did not better relay this to you. Please rest assured your other concerns, as our hotel is 100% a minority owned business. We hope to be able to accommodate you again. Please contact me directly and I will personally take care of your reservation.

Thank you,
Tom Falco, CHA

“Well-kept, well-run, clean, but dated motel”

Needed a place for my family to stay after freak October snow storm knocked out our power. Property had just hit full occupancy and staff was clearly overworked at this point, but still very attentive and got us set up with what we needed. Over the several days we stayed here, I observed that the place is remarkably quiet, especially when you take into account it's dated construction. The property is well maintained, but watch for ice on upstairs walkway (I guess they don't start sanding until AFTER Halloween - LOL). Staff is friendly. Breakfast is better than what I would expect for a place at this price point (eggs, sausage, fresh waffle maker, etc.). Heat worked well, hot water was hot, adequate water pressure through those hotel flow-restrictor shower heads. Beds were clean and sufficiently comfortable. Ample electrical outlets for all our rechargeable devices. No foul smells in our non-smoking room. I'll also add that I have allergies and felt like I was ready to die at a recent stay at the Marriott. I could breathe quite easily here without popping any pills or reaching for the inhaler. The room is of average (comfortable) size, but the bathroom is smaller than a walk-in closet. Wireless internet access was slow but serviceable (and free). TV was an old standard def 27". I mentioned to the front desk that the one in our room was dying fast, but not to worry about fixing it while we were there. They replaced it with a much better one a couple hours later anyway. :)

The property is right off I-95 and the building is shaped like a T with the majority of the rooms in the back, where we were. I couldn't hear the highway at all from our room in the back. The location is convenient 2 minutes to get onto 95 and only 4 to 24 minutes to get on 91 (yup, I despise that traffic - maybe try running up Quinnipiac Avenue and picking up 91 at exit 8)

Did someone mention bed bugs? I've stayed at non-franchise properties in tourist areas and I've encountered the little critters there. Needless to say, I'm quite vigilant about that now and I saw ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNS OF BED BUGS in our room. I've always felt that such a complaint is usually falsely made from someone with an ax to grind, as everyone knows that a bed bug scare will keep guests away. So, take that review for what it's worth. This place is by no means run down or a dive.

If you need a no-frills place to stay and you are OK with a motel and OK with dated architecture and a micro-bathroom, this place is a bargain.

Room Tip: Pets allowed in certain smoking rooms.

“Only good part - the pool”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

The only good thing about this hotel is the pool. It's disgusting and outdated. I know I saw a few bedbugs.

“Standard I-95 motor inn.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011 via mobile

Stayed for two nights while attending a function in New Haven.

This is an older Motel, 2 floors with outside corridors. It is literally "on" I95 so you will get traffic noise. Rooms are dated but were clean and acceptable for our short stay. Other reviewers have complained of bed bugs, I noticed that the Motel had discarded a ton of mattresses by the dumpster so perhaps they addressed this issue. Staff was friendly upon check in, breakfast leave a LOT to be desired.

Basically, if you need a place to crash for a night, this motel is fine, but I would not stay here longer than that. As other reviewers noted, this property appears to have been a Holiday Inn in its previous life.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

I was reading the review and noticed the post about bedbugs on July 22nd. I was there this same weekend for a week and again this past thurs fri sat & sun. Ive been staying at this hotel for the past 8yrs for our summer visits to New Haven from Florida and have never ever got bitten by anything or had anything taken out of my room. the staff has always treated us kindly and went over board for our comfort. I would highly recommend this hotel as a clean , friendly, excellent price and a pool to my friends and family .
