We stayed at the Cos Cob Inn last summer. I was looking for an outpost so we could so daytrips in the Western part of the state for the first half of the week, and then we were planning on finishing out the week in Mystic. This inn was nice, but a bit of a weird experience. When we arrived, we realized you had to go across the street to this shipyard under major construction. There was a person in an empty office who barely greeted you and handed you keys -- that was the last time we saw anyone! We had booked the The Wedding Suite, which was on the ground floor, across from the Common Room (kind of a weird place for a honeymoon suite if you ask me).
The room was really nice -- huge with a sitting room, sofa, bar, and TV, the bedroom had a large four poster bed, TV, closets, burea, table and chairs, then another set of chairs in front of the fire place. THEN, there was a little room with a vanity to apply makeup at (with a sink, but the seat was covered with old makeup), a room with a toilet and sink, and then another room with the hot tub and shower. With the exception of the seat, it was all very clean and well maintained.
The view wasn't that great -- we looked at the main road and shipyard from our window, but it's all rather industrial. I thought there would be a cute pier we could walk on, but there's nothing in walking distance and it's all very residential. I would suggest this as a place to stay when visiting family, not really a relaxing seaside getaway.
One other issue was the noise level -- every morning at 7, breakfast was set up, right across from our room and it woke us up. Then, people start filing in and out at 8, so it gets even noisier. The breakfast was the usual -- bagels, muffins, cereal, etc. Only two little tables were in the little common room, so we often brought food back to the room and ate there.
Overall, we liked it. We definitely got our money's worth -- it just wasn't what we expected.
