“Disaster”

The hotel itself isn't too bad. Just another example of "you get what you pay for". The only problem we had was with the GM. Long story short... girl at front desk does not give debit card back to mother. Mother doesnt realize until a few hours later that she did not have a receipt or card. I call microtel, they say they won't mail the debit card until they talk to the GM. After many calls back to microtel, the girl at front desk says she talked with the GM and that the GM has dropped off the card at fedex for overnight delivery. Card never arrives the next day and we continue to call the microtel asking for a tracking number. I finally talk the girl into giving me the GM's phone number and full name. We now start to call the GM. GM lets the phone ring once or twice and hangs up w/ no voicemail. She finally answers and says she is very sorry and will need to call me back in five minutes to go get the tracking number from her office. Five minutes comes and goes and a few hours later my wife leaves her a message that we will be reporting this to corporate. The debit card arrives two days later from fedex "overnight-ed". The GM lied to us from the start and got scared when we told her we were going to report her. Overall- I will not be staying at a Mictrotel again. The inconvenience and complete lack of concern for getting the debit card back was disgusting to me, especially because it was no fault of ours, rather the mistake of the front desk staff. When we did speak with corporate, they said "there was nothing they could do." So- if you do stay at Microtel- hope that nothing goes wrong because there will be no resolution to the problem.

“Aging fast”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2011

This had been a favorite stop when I travelled to CT to visit family and friends. No frills but clean and in a good location. My, how it has changed. Could be cleaner.Could also use refurbishing. Carpets worn, mold around floor in bathroom by the tub. Just seems rundown. My husband and I stayed for a week and the floor had not been vacuumed. Had to change rooms after arrival. The room we were in appeared to have been stripped of amenities and bathroom appeared used. The next room had a door that didn't seat well and you couldn't use the extra security latch. The heat went out in our room one night and they did have it repaired the next day. (The temp was -11) Housekeeping staff are very noisy. Loud talking and laughing in the halls and Breakfast area. One day the housekeeping staff came into the breakfast area and helped themselves to several muffins apiece. The quantity at that time was low and it was still breakfast time for the people staying there. The last time I had stayed there, I spoke to the manager about the housekeeping staff and she said that she would address the issue. Apparently not. If it hadn't been for the weather and a busy schedule, we would have changed hotels.

“Excellent hotel with great pricing!”

My family and I stayed at Microtel for one night, and we were incredibly impressed with the service and rooms, especially because we actually had visited the nearby hotels to ask about pricing and found Microtel to be one of the cheapest around. The front desk was really friendly and helpful, directing us to nearby shopping and restaurants and helping us get settled. We got two queen sized beds in a very clean room (the bathroom was spotless as well). The wifi worked great even though we were at the very end of the hotel. One quirk about the room we had though is that you can really only watch the TV from one bed and the nearby window seat, not from the other bed but since we were there only one night, it didn't matter much. The continental breakfast had a lot of different choices (muffins, bagels, pastries, cereal, hot waffle, coffee, juice, etc) so it isn't the random packaged little debbie snacks that other hotels try and pass off as breakfast. Overall my family and I had an excellent time at this hotel.

“Good for its value!”

I stayed at the Microtel in Bethel a few months back with my boyfriend. We got the RoomSaver.com discount using a coupon from the book, so it was only $69 to stay there. We had a queen size bed, which was great! The room was small but clean - had a refrigerator, microwave, desk, and a big wall-sized mirror behind the bed, which was nice. No complaints about the bathroom either! There were some sketchy guys who hung outside the hotel almost the entire time we were there, no idea what that was all about. Anytime we left or entered the hotel, they were all just hanging around outside there smoking cigarettes and staring at us as we walked in and out. The continental breakfast was really good, they have some amazing breakfast burritos! Overall it was a great stay for the cheap price we paid.

“Is this a hotel or apartment rental?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

I needed a clean, safe inexpensive hotel for a one night stay. I chose Microtel in Bethel CT, as it was closet to where I had to be the following morning for a get together.

As I pulled up to the hotel's parking lot, i noticed many people, all men standing in the lot smoking cigarettes. I walked into the lobby and again there were many men standing around in there. As I was checking in, one man began taking his clothes out of a garbage bag and throwing them on the floor next to me yelling at the girl behind the front desk claiming his shirts were missing. She didn't seemed phased by any of this. I was given the keycard to my room. I walked down the hallway with my young daughter as every man watched to see what room I went into.

The hotel wasn't horrible, it did need some cleaning. I had asked on the phone if their rooms had a hand held shower nozzle. I was given a handicapped room, I was now told this is the only room that had one. Our room had a smell of a nursing home or hospital. i immediately went to the window to open it, the locks weren't working and the window was already open. We were on the ground level. The lights across the top of the bed on the ceiling were that of a hospital room. Some lights were out in the room. The bed was comfortable. Only some strands of hair were found, otherwise linen looked clean.

Bathroom had mold growing around bathtub. Only one bath towel, wash cloth and hand towel were hanging. Towels were supposed to be white, they were a dull gray. One tiny bar of soap was the amenity in this room. The handles on the sink were either badly worn or not cleaned well. Even though I asked for a non-smoking room, there were men in the halls smoking throughout the night. Loud noise was heard all night, and often startled us. You could hear music and banging of doors throughout the night.

I did not feel safe at this hotel and would not recommend it, as it did seem like it could have been an apartment rental type of a place. Rules were not enforced. When booking you may want to ask what kind of cliental they have for your stay. (Hunters, Fisherman, business people, large groups for weddings, families etc)

On the plus side, they did have free WiFi and the bed was comfortable. When I called for more towels and light bulbs to be changed, they sent someone right away.
