We were pleased to return to our hometown Berlin, CT from Victoria, BC for our 45th high school reunion. Go Redcoats! (The name came from the red jerseys donated to the football team when the high school was started in 1935, not the British - the town has a lot of significant American history.) A big part of our stay on two different occasions was the outstanding and friendly service of every staff member at the Best Western New England Suites, both times.
We concur with the previous two reports in every regard. We can also say that staying on the Berlin Turnpike in the geographic center of Connectictut provides for day trips to all corners of the state and to Hartford and surrounding communities.
We have been traveling since early October across the United States, staying most nights in medium priced hotels. Only one hotel has provided equal value, but none better than the Best Western in Berlin.
We stayed at another chain hotel in Berlin before staying at the New England Suites and found it acceptable, but wanting in a number of regards. We also stayed at a remodeled motel in Southington that was a little better than the first motel. So, if you are in Central Connecticut particularly southwest of Hartford, you won't go wrong.
We chose to stay at the New England Suites. (We have been asked to specifically mention this by the staff and management of the hotel. We had been concerned about a report on trip advisor that the hotel had bedbugs - apparently the customer was demanding a refund). We can report without equivocation that the rooms and public areas, including the breakfast room and swimming pool, were clean and well appointed. You may be welcomed with a fire in the lobby fireplace.
We also presented a coupon for preferred pricing. We got it - for both stays. Our room was upgraded without asking because the elevator was out service (fixed when we returned) and for both stays, three days in total).
The room was comfortable, equipped with the ubiquitous Amana motel AC / heat unit. We were told that the hotel was going through upgrading that included smoke detectors wire to the front desk to control smoking in the room. Other improvements are planned to an already reasonably priced, well situated, well-run establishment.
Breakfast was a small step up from the usual waffles. There were some sausages, eggs and bacon - nothing to write more about. There could be some improvement in this regard.
With this minor quibble, stay here . . .
