I have stayed at the Country Lodge four times over the last nine months. First, I must say that it has greatly improved since it has changed ownership a few years ago. The rooms are clean and well maintained. They have hot coffee, tea and water available 24/7 and all rooms have a refrigerator and microwave. I have no problems with the property or the quality of the rooms, however their billing practices and pet policy needs some adjusting or at the very least, some consistency. On our first visit, we were attending a party nearby and brought our dog. It wasn't until we got there to check in that we were told that under no circumstance were we to leave our dog unattended in the hotel room. It was winter in Colorado and the temperatures were well below freezing. We couldn't leave our dog in the car and we couldn't take him with us to the party. Had we known that yes, you can bring your pets, but no you can't ever leave the hotel without them, then we would had boarded our dog and reduced our stress level. Also during the same visit, they told us that even though they do accept AAA, because they were booked for the night, they were not going to honor my AAA discount. Huh? You would think that because they are booked, it wouldn't hurt them to honor a measly 10% discount. I came away with the feeling that if business is going well, then they really could care less if I am a satisfied customer. Because County Lodge is the only hotel in the area that has a swimming pool and a hot tub, I decided to stay with them three more times (without my dog) and just forgive them their transgressions. The four times I stayed with them, I reserved via their website. On the website there is not a place to request a AAA discount. Once I arrived at the hotel to check in, I asked that they honor my discount. During second visit, they told me again . . . they were really busy therefore, they would not honor my discount. Oh, well like I wasn't warned. . . then for my third visit, they apparently weren't all that busy so they decided to be nice and honor my discount. That made me feel valued as a frequent customer. So I stayed with them a fourth time, at which point there was a different person at the front desk who wasn't all that nice to begin with. When I asked for my discount, she told me flat out, "No." and if had any beef that I should take it up with the manager. So I did. I explained that the last time I stayed with them, my discount was honored. The manager was aghast, it was against policy to ever honor any discount to anyone who reserves via the website and whoever honored my discount could get into trouble and she was going to find out who and put a stop to it. According to the manager, the only time they accept AAA discount is if you reserve over the phone (which I did the very first visit and they didn't honor it then either). I tried to reason with her and explain that the simple act of honoring my AAA discount made me feel valued as a customer and that I have stayed at their property four times already and will probably stay there several more times. The manager acted indifferent. She really didn't care. Apparently, rules are rules (although they seem to change from time to time depending on if they are busy or not.) I am just thankful that I have never had a serious issue with them, because I have a strong feeling they are not very customer oriented. Alas, I learned my lesson. Even though they are close, convenient and cheap, I just won't do business with them anymore.
Room Tip: I liked RM 102. Its near the swimming pool and the hot coffee. Very convenient.
