“Management Failure”

Our condo was about what we expected but what we didn't expect is the unprofessional display of cocky , disrespectful and all and all bad manners on display at the front desk. I asked to speak to the GM of the property about things I heard and was told but it was obvious the desk staff had as much respect of the GM as they did their guests.. In addition the front desk manager never seemed to be around when i came by the desk mid - day. Stayed at many places around the world and don't remember any being a case of major "management neglect" for lack of a better word. Beutiful location. Fun Place,

“Don't ruin your vacation staying here”

We recently reserved a one bedroom at the Zephyr for 4 nights and it was so bad that we actually left after the 3rd night! When we made our reservation (4 months in advance) we reserved a king bed since two queens were not available for my spouse, myself and our young daughter. After checking into our slope side unit we realized that our bed was a queen which was not large enough for the three of us. The front desk informed us that no other units were available and they would send a cot to the room. The cot was very uncomfortable and we were give two blood stained blankets. The queen bed wasn't much better. The unit was in shabby condition and reminded me of my college furniture. I later found out the the units are individually owned and I'm not sure what standards, if any the management expects from the owners. Now onto the slope side units.....don't be fooled by a mountain view. Yes, you do have a nice view, however you also have to deal with the fact you are on the Winterpark Resort boardwalk. If you need more than a few hours of sleep, I do NOT recommend these unit. The cute xylophone's that are on the boardwalk become everyones 1 am delight. The local bar plays outside music and you can hear everyone who is talking (in our case, yelling) outside.

Also, pay special attention to the cancellation policy. Winterpark Resort requires a 21 day cancellation notice. You are responsible for the entire reservation if you cancel after 21 days. We actually reserved 3 units (1 at Zephyr and 2 at Fraser Crossing) and one of our friends had to cancel due to health issues 17 days prior to our arrival. We were informed that we could no longer cancel the reservation for one of the units. So we paid for 3 units, only used 2 and left early because we couldn't stand the place!!! What a bummer. Now, I did get the opportunity to see Fraser Crossing which did seem much better than the Zephyr. They are under the same management so who knows what it will be like in a few years, but for now it seems like a much better alternative.

I almost forgot to mention how hospitable the hotel staff it. Don't bother taking any complaints to them. This staff needs to be retrained on hospitality. Perhaps if you clean the place up you won't have so many complaints!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!

“One Bedroom is Small for Family of Four”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

If you are looking for ski in, ski out plus amenities like ski storage and hot tubs this is a good choice, but the Zepher falls short of being a great resort for families. Prices are expensive because it is so close to the slopes, so we opted for a one bedroom and let the kids sleep in the sleeper-sofa. This did not go over so well, since the rooms are small and there is not a lot of places to put your stuff. The "expandable dinning set" stayed folded and pushed up against the breakfast bar, again because of lack of room an so we never sat down at the same table to share a meal. Other good, but not great amenities include:

Hot tubs (all outdoors) but no pool,
Internet access but no wi-fi.
Ski In and Ski Out, but Pay to Park

Maybe we would have had a better experience if management would have been more forgiving of our late arrival. We were delayed by the airlines due to bad weather and we arrived in Winter Park a day late. When we knew we were going to be late, we called and told them, but they would not refund any of our advanced payment. They did, as a consolation, allowed us to park free.

Next time we go to Winter Park we will look for other options.

Room Tip: Our one bedroom was different than the layout shown, probably because it was near the elevator which...

“Wonderful stay, ski in&out, cozy fireplace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Wonderful kitchen w/dishwasher. foldout sofa with fireplace and tiny outside porch area to slope side, Cute bedroom with super warm comforter, great stay. Great hottubs! Needed a few silly maintenance things, toilet rocked a touch, tv remote was fussy, silly stuff.nternet is a calbe, I was able to stream an episode over it though. It was clean, warm, and everything we needed was already there, enough pillows & blankets, dishes for cooking, coffee pot- however the coffee they have for you is awful, and extremely weak. Bring your own. Location: fabulous. Ski storage is nice. Village shops have a bit of everything, village restaurant prices are insane, and they close very early in the evenings. We were there second week of December. I would stay here again, but go towards peak season more....we were a bit short on snow. Loved the ski in ski out though. This place gets it done, no huge frills, but it was a budget vacation and worked out good. Our 3 night 4ppl stay w/lift tickets got mixed up in the reservation and backwards, but was a simple easy fix with no fee. changes.

“Nice Slopeside Room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We (two dads, two 10 year old sons -- first trip to Colorado for sons) had a very nice stay at Zephyr Mountain Lodge. We stayed 4 nights (for the price of 3) in a two bedroom place at the Slopeside building with a mountain view. Our unit was very nice, on the second floor, looked out over the Zephyr lift and a portion of the village. Our unit was quite large -- two large bedrooms, large living/dining area, flat screen tvs, small deck, full kitchen -- and in very nice condition. We did not experience any of the issues with our unit as were mentioned in other reviews. We only interacted with the Zephyr staff when we checked in -- and had no issues there either. We could walk right out from the second floor to the slopes and never really had to use the elevators. Great location for ski-in/ski-out. A short walk (100 yards perhaps) over to the ski-school building. We used the underground parking for which there is an extra $14 charge per day -- the only other option is to park quite a distance away. Overall, a very nice place to stay with kids for some skiing.

The Village area was ok, with restaurants, Starbucks, etc, and a small, safe environment for kids to navigate. Note though that except for Saturday, the entire Village area pretty much shut down by 8pm We arrived at 8:45pm on Wednesday night and there were no restaurants open, the one "supply store" was closed, etc., so we had to drive into the town of Winter Park for food and supplies. (The town is only a 5 minute drive). Also note that none of the breakfast places in the Village open until 8am -- so early breakfast out in the Village are not an option either. The quiet Village was fine for our group -- but if you are looking for a lively nightlife and lots of activity, then the Village is not the place to stay.
