“Superior to Camping at the State Park next door.”

We have been going to Lathrop state park for years and noticed that it is now catering to RV's. So several years ago we decided to try Rio Cucharas and have been happy with the quality of the rooms for the price, as well as the free breakfast and the friendliness of the people running the motel. If you enjoy friendly people at a good price I would recommend this for a week-end getaway.

“PROMISING!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2010

Colleagues wrinkled their noses when, as we entered the dining area, a couple of over zealous dogs broke loose (pets are welcome to stay here) and chased in through the doorless opening to the patio. We had been attracted by the exceptionally frugal prices on the menu and the obvious BEAUTY OF THE PLACE. The managers were exceptionally hospitable and eager to please us, going out of their way to make us comfortable and to correct problems (due to age and economic disasters) that caused us to wrinkle our noses.

“Awesome views, warmth, charm AND a bargain!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2010

Located about 5 miles of Walsenburg's town center on 160, Rio Cucharas Inn is one of the best-kept secrets we've encounters. Rustic and charming, done in adobe style with Southwestern decor, the rooms are clean, charmingly appointed and equipped with micro and fridge. Service at the front desk is gracious and accommodating, and the view of the Spanish Peaks/Sangre de Cristos at dawn is breathtaking. Includes Continental breakfast and free internet access in the breakfast room. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We've traveled this way often and never checked it out -- we'll never stay anywhere else in Southern Colorado when on our way to our New Mexico second home.

“Historic Hotel, Huge Rooms, Beamed Ceilings, Great Views and Staff”

I have stayed at tthis hotel off and on for 1 year. The rooms were always very clean. The staff very friendly. If I had a problem they fixed it as soon as I told them about it. Very quiet.
with outstanding views of the Spanish Peaks. They keep up grading rooms and the breakfast was just right.

“Even the flies couldn't wait to get out”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2009

We made the mistake of staying here one extremely hot summer night. The only room available had black soot on the ceiling from the corner fireplace, which of course, we didn't need to light that night because it had to have been 95 degrees in there. The air conditioner would run only for a few minutes each hour. When we complained to the clerk that it was way too hot in the room to sleep, there was, of course, nothing he could do about it. We were miserable. Even the flies were knocking on the windows to get out. Of course, the windows didn't open.
Just awful.
