First time visit to the Lodge at Vail was absolutley nothinmg short of Excellent. Great location, the entire staff was warm , courteous - EXTREMELY HELPFUL!! This was by far one of the best experiences I have ever had!!! Highly recommended The Concierge is very knowledgeable and helpful as is the entire staff!! A must stay at in Vail!!!

Despite the fact that this hotel seems to be shadowed by others in reviews, I really liked this hotel and got a great rate on priceline/hotwire (can't remember which one).

First of all the Lodge is located in the best part of Vail Village. Now considering that all areas of Vail village are great and relatively, this says a lot. The Lodge is located right on Gore street. Its the middle of the village. It's also right next to the slopes and the main gondola, (winter, summer gondola is located in the adjoining lions head village). Right in the hear of all the shops/ restaurants.

The decor of the hotel was very nice. One of the best i have seen. Although the hotel is older, I did not get that impression. Very nice room and bathroom. even had a little patio area.

The only downside to this hotel, was their is no air conditioning in the summer. The room was definitely a little hot. Luckily the night was cool and i was able to open the patio door to let in the cool air. I could imagine however if there was a particularly hot night it could be tough.

On our first trip to Vail we stayed as a family of four at the Lodge at Vail (LAV to locals) in a two bedroom delux room for a two week ski trip. Now, that's an expensive thing to do but the lodge lived up to our expectations and threw in a few nice surpirses. The accomodation at the LAV is a mix of older and newer rooms - ours, in the older part of the building, was cosy, personalised, welcoming and very usable for the four of us and our ski gear. Some places would probably offer more area for the money.

The staff were universally on the money. The bell desk is particularly helpful and organise lifts and shuttles around the resort and manage skis efficiently and happily. This made a big diference to us with two small kids. The various staff at the concierge desk helped us heaps on numerous occasions. We also used the pool, hot tubs (surprisingly big hit with the kids), the spa (lovely but pricey), the ski valet, the breakfast room (fresh fruit - horray), the free wifi (good enough for Skype - my personal standard) and so on.

The other thing that make the LAV is its location - it really is in the mix. The lift is less than a minute's walk from the door, all the restaurants are close by and the surrounds are pretty. The only times we needed transport was for getting to kids ski school - which the bell desk sorted for us.

We'll come back to ski th eback bowls in a more snowy season and probably stay at the LAV again.

My wife & I stayed in the Lodge in January 2012 when we had a great ski holiday in Vail.We chose it because of its location - within 100 metres of the Vista Bahn chairlift. The fact that the hotel was supremely comfortable, with very friendly helpful staff, served a delicious breakfast & had lots of amenities that are useful to travellers was merely a bonus. We wanted easy accessibilty to the ski slopes & The Lodge was perfect. We had free use of a ski concierge service that was only 20 metres from the chairlift - what could be more convenient. The Lodge used to the premier hotel in Vail but that accolade is now probably claimed by a newer & more expensive hotel. However, The Lodge was a great, great place to stay during our week in Vail & I consider that it was excellent value for money. We were given a king size deluxe room despite having only booked a standard double & it was lovely & quiet & very comfortable. If we ski Vail again, we will definitely return. My thanks to all the staff & in particular to Norbert Palladino, the Restaurant Manager, who was particularly attentive & helpful; he runs a very efficient staff with great panache.
