“Cheapest Place in Vail for a reason!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Although the staff was incredibly nice and helpful, this place is awful. We've stayed in Youth Hostels and cheap hotels all over Europe, and I've never experienced such gross conditions.
The room was dirty and freezing (the heaters were barely working, and they did bring us 2 ancient space heaters that we were afraid to use for longer than 20 minutes) when we arrived (trash under the bed, towels that had makeup stains, etc), and the hot tub was cold. The mattresses were stained, the fridge had dirty, standing water in the bottom, and there was mold on the shower ceiling.
We had low expectations for the price, but we did AT LEAST expect a clean room with heat.

“Cheap date....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Okay - I realize that The Roost is definitely the cheapest place to stay in Vail, and that being said it is a bargain. For the price, I can tolerate the shabbiness and low level grunge. However, the deal breaker for me is a luke warm hot tub after a long day of skiing! Not acceptable, and for that reason alone I will spend the extra $50 - $100 and stay somewhere with a decent, fun and actually hot hot-tub.

Room Tip: Ask to be away from the frontage road.

“Cheapest place in Vail”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012 via mobile

The Roost may be the cheapest place to stay when at Vail, Colorado unless you can find a couch to crash on. If not, be prepared for small rooms, soft beds with aging sheets, and no extra blankets through the front desk. And still have to pay over $100/night.

The place is one of the older properties in Vail, and its' age shows. But it was clean, the young lady at the front desk was very helpful and a good source of info about the area, and the ammenities acceptable. So if you can't afford the high prices of other Vail properties, check out the Roost. It still beats sleeping in the car.

“Stayed 9/16/2011”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

Here is the deal - We got a room for 5 people (we brought a baby bed and our dog, too) and we got 2 double beds. Overall, i was expecting way worse from reading the reviews. It was not that bad, at all! Now, if my baby was still crawling, I would've been more grossed out because the carpet is very dirty. But, the sheets were clean, the bathroom appeared clean, it is what it is: a checp place to stay. In any small city, this hotel room would probably be 30-40 dollars, but we paid 75/night.....and come on people, it is vail. We would stay here again, if we needed to save money. The man who was there at the desk was kind and the breakfast consisted of this : donuts, cheerios or corn flakes, milk, orange juice, packets of oatmeal, coffee and banana's. Here's my take on the place: it's a place to stay if you aren't planning on staying at the hotel for very long during the day anyway. If they got new carpet, updated their comforters and drapes, towels, etc. it would really spruce the place up. The outside carpet could use some spiffying up, too. The pool and hot tub looked functional, not luxurious, but functional. It was too cold for us to use it though. We kept our dog in it's kennel while we were there. Oh yeah, it wasn't super clean, but it wasn't super dirty, either. The phone book had some nasty goo on it & the dresser could've been wiped more clean, but overall - it's the cheapest in vail & not as bad as a lot of the reviews stated. The room had a tv, too. no micro or fridge. The outside is cute, the insides need some TLC :) This hotel is close to 2 parks for the kids, too. one across the highway on the other frontage road and one just a block or two down the road. No wireless internet or printer available, either, but they do have a computer in the reception area you can use. Right near the hwy, so expect to hear traffic when windows are open. It deserves 3 and a half stars because of the "dingy" factor, but I'll give it 4 because management was friendly and helpful! This could be 4 stars for sure if they'd get new curtains, bed comforters, towels and carpet! Maybe some mints on the bed, lol! What did you think?! this was a holiday inn?!
