“Wonderful place to relax and get away.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011 via mobile

My wife and I stayed at the Ores and Mine during the last stretch of our honeymoon, but had we known how nice it would be, we might have stayed for the whole trip. John and Donna made us feel like family from the minute we arrived until we packed our bags in the car. They shared stories of their family, things to do in Leadville (the Mining Hall of Fame is far more interesting than you might expect), and even some marriage advice. Then, of course, there is the fantastic view and the unique bedrooms, each with its own bit of history. If you want a great place to get away and relax while you are in Colorado, this is the place to go!

“Fascinating Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

This is a B & B for people who love eccentricity in surroundings, history, and are people-people. The host and hostess are warm and welcoming, entertaining and helpful. The decor...well, it's like staying in a museum. If you can think of it, it is on display somewhere in this house.

It is good for people who like in-home evening activities like games, ping pong or pool in a large common room rather than retiring to their room.

The view from Matchless is wonderful. Across the lake to the mountains. Doris has big windows and lots of light but does not look at the lake. Check on windows and light in the other rooms if that is important to you. Some have small windows and are on a lower level. Dust allergy people might want to avoid the lower levels due to the collections.

If you go outside at night the stars will be brilliant with no ambient lighting and the quiet is profound. No sound of planes or automobiles. A rare treat these days.

Restaurants are 20 minutes away but the drive is easy and you will be given excellent directions and advice with menus available to examine before you choose. There is a refrigerator for guest use.

This is an excellent place from which to explore trails in the area, Independence Pass which is an exquisite drive on a clear day, or a day trip to Aspen.

Breakfast was promptly at 8:00 AM and very good. The host and hostess put themselves out to be available and helpful and entertaining.

“Home Away from Home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

From the moment you walk in the door Donna and John welcome you with open arms and make you feel like "family". Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Donna prepares a delicious breakfast with the help of John and all the guest have an opportunity to share their adventures at breakfast. Donna and John are a wealth of knowledge about the Leadville area and love sharing stories of days gone by in this mining town. The views of Twin Lakes are picture perfect and provide a awesome backdrop while soaking in the hot tub. The collection of items in each room all have a story of origin and you can spend hours just investigating their massive Leadville collection.
Donna and John are wonderful host, with a lovely eclectic Bed and Breakfast....and best of all they make you feel like family!
Thanks Donna and John!

“A blessed place to stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

My wife and I stayed at Ores and Mine B&B two nights. It was the best of Colorado. Donna and John are a delight. They welcome you as family and make your stay a little piece of Heaven. Their location overlooking Twin Lakes and at the South Trailhead of Mt Elbert provide an outstanding opportunity for communing with God's creation. Donna's breakfast provides an excellent and fulfilling start to the day. Thanks Donna and John for making our vacation in Colorado so special.

“Wonderful Stay at Ores And Mines”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2011

My daughter and I are preparing for our trip to Tanzania to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in October. We have been climbing 14ers in preparation. We stayed at Ores and Mines B&B the night before our climb up Colorado's highest, Mt Elbert. Our stay was wonderful. Ores and Mines is approximately 5 miles from the trailhead which made it very convenient. We had a great time the evening before playing games and listening to the juke box. Our hosts, John and Donna, were wonderful. John gave us directions to the trailhead so we knew exactly what to expect.

My wife joined us and hiked by the lake while we climbed.
