For 50 dollars a night this is a steal. Calm and quiet , rooms were exactly what I expected for the price but also clean and tidy. I used it as a midway stop between Denver and Santa Fe and was not disapointed. As a clue to the location theres a huge oil derrick in the parking lot (hence Budget Derrick ).
would stay again if on the same route and even more so to eat at Tequila's mexican restaurant about half a mile south, which was great.

After reading all of the reviews, we decided to give it a try. We prepaid our reservation, showed up and got our key. We went into this remembering that "budget" is part of the hotel's name and, therefore, the very low price. It is no frills, clean, adequate accomodations. If you're used to all of the 'extras' (fancy soaps, lotions, shampoos, flat screen tvs, huge tub/showers,etc.) of the large chains and are unwilling to 'step down,' this isn't the motel for you. The price is soooo low because they've cut out the extras. For us, this didn't effect our stay or ability to shower and get going the next day. We would most certainly stay here again if we were traveling on a budget.

We had a confirmed reservation for 2 rooms, King beds, non-smoking. When we arrived around 6 pm, we were told there were no more Kings available, and they had only one room reserved for us, not two. I showed our confirmation letter with confirmation number and all the information but was told "we don't go by that". Since we were being charged anyway (there's a 24 hr. cancellation policy), we took what was left. Stinky, smoky-smelling rooms with tiny beds. And when we called to reserve,we were told there was a continental breakfast, but this just doesn't exist.
Sure, we didn't expect much for the price, but when you have a "confirmed 24. hr. cancellation policy reservation", you should at least get what your confirmation letter states.

The Budget Host in Trinidad was my first experience with this little chain, & I've stayed here a few times since 1995. My first stay, I'd gotten off work at 7AM, flown from Seattle to Denver, played 9 holes in Pueblo, and met my family(who had driven from Amarillo) for dinner in El Corazon de Trinidad, and got to bed about 9PM.......and at 3AM, the TV suddenly blasted on with MTV!! Talk about a rude awakening!! I was able to get back to sleep, but ever since, when I check into a hotel, I ALWAYS check & make sure the TV Timer is OFF!
Every time I've stayed at this Budget Host, I always request a room in the older, 1-story section, so I can step out of my room with a chair, sit on the veranda, have a brew or two, & watch the sun go down. These rooms have always been nothing fancy, but clean, with a good 50's era bath, and since there's nothing around, they're pretty quiet, although I always use earplugs on the road. I did rendevous with a friend here once, & when he saw my room, he was extremely PO'd that he was in one of the "more modern" rooms in the newer, two-story section....but while I'd told him what to request, he'd heard the "more modern", and gone for it. The person who sold him the room should have used "more soulless", so be sure that you opt for the 1-story section.
