“Worst Hotel Experience ... Ever”

I stayed @ Montana Placer in unit #5 10 years ago, and had a blissful stay. Sadly, my return visit in July 2010 was a disaster and nothing like my first stay. I arrived in the evening, and was dropped off in front of the Inn. There was a for sale sign in front, the front was wide open but led into the former reception area-turned construction/storage closet. It was an unclean mess, and a major disappointment. I realized that in fine print on the confirmation they had provided the direction to go to the office to pick up a code first, but no mention had been made to that effect nor was it highlighted, which given the direction was at the bottom of the confirmation would have been appreciated, albeit not necessary.

Even before I had arrived, I was concerned about the stay as 2 days prior before to my departure I had reached out to confirm my arrival (again, no mention was made about arrival instructions) and only at that point, the sales person informed me there was a construction project going on next door (well beyond the 10 day advance notice for me to pull out of the reservation had I known this). Therefore, on Monday morning I was awoken to jack hammers and a major construction project outside my door step.

I was heading to Telluride for a relaxing vacation, and the accommodation was anything but that. The construction lasted each night from 730/8am until about 7pm and was a massive disappointment. I phoned to let the agency know I would be moving out, and I suggested they refund me the unused nights so I could find alternatives for a place to stay. They would not budge, aside from trying to push me into another of their properties, which never appealed in the first place. They were rude, unaccommodating and dishonest in their business ethics. I will never stay at any of their properties or suggest doing so to anyone.

Note: in addition to the construction issues, I arrived to find empty beer bottles on the balcony, the bedroom carpet/bed spread looked like they had not been cleaned in the 10 years since my last stay, and there was an overall sense of dirtiness with the property.

As of January 2012 the management of Montana Placer Inn has been taken over by Latitude 38 Vacation Rentals, a professional property management company based in Telluride, Colorado. We're proud to announce that we have completed much needed improvements throughout the property; including upgrades/updates to paint, furniture, blinds. One improvement made by standard operating procedure of our company is that guests are communicated with 2-3 times prior to their arrival and all check-in and arrival instructions are clear. We ask guests to call us 1 hour prior to arrival; we can then personally answer any questions and make sure every guest knows how to get into their property with ease.
Montana Placer Inn is a mid level hotel property located in the heart of downtown Telluride, steps away from the Free Gondola, lift 8 and 1.5 blocks from center Main Street. With four hotel rooms, each offering gas fireplace, small refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave - 1 hotel room with kitchenette - Unit 6 (2 burner stove top, microwave, small refrigerator, coffee maker) and 1, Fully Furnished, Fully Equipped 1 Bedroom Condo - Unit 1.
The property also offers Free Wireless Internet - Common Use 6 Person Hot Tub - Free (first parked, first served off street parking) and free street permit parking.
Guests can expect a clean, well maintained property with an ideal location.

“lacking”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

Do you enjoy:
- Using the same towels every day?
- Emptying your own trash?
- Wireless that mysteriously comes and goes?
- Insecurity that comes with balcony doors that don't lock?
- "Great" view of neighbor's wall 6' away?
- TV that inexplicably conks out?
Then this is the place for you!
On the plus side, great location.

“Amazing Stay & We didn't know what to expect! A+”

We didn't know what to expect when booking the Montana Placer or Telluride. We hadn't been to either. What an amazing choice!! We arrived to see how beautiful Telluride was. People are friendly and happy and it isn't busy or crowded at all which is what we expected. Check in couldn't have been easier! We got our parking pass and were off to our room at the Placer. We pulled up and street parking was a breeze! The Montana Placer looked pretty on the outside but we weren't sure what to expect once we stepped inside. To our excitment the room was amazing!! It was larger then we expected with an adorable balcony! We had beautiful mountain views to the left and right of the balcony and up above! (straight ahead is a wall but all you have to do is turn your head and you can see amazing views!) The view from the large window behind the bed was even better! Huge catherdral ceilings. The floors are heated which is wonderful especially in the bathroom! The gas fireplace is such a special feature too. The bathroom was huge and so pretty with his & her sinks! The bed was big and comfortable as were the linens. The towels were plentiful and didn't have the musty hotel smell at all! No tacky decor, everything was simple and stylish. We slept great and the best part was the hottub! Clean and right downstairs! We loved it after a hard day of skiing. The only thing about this room is it is up a flight of stairs and the bathroom is a 2-step down room so if you can't handle stairs, then choose rooms 1 or 2, not 3 or 4. We loved room #3! The Placer is located about a 1/2 block from the Gondala & Lift 7! How wonderful to just walk about 50 feet, buy your tickets and jump right on! The Gondola is free and taked you up the mountain and to Mountain Village which is a fun spot for dinner and drinks! The Gondola is open until midnight too! The perfect place! I hope it is there when we come back next! We will stay at the Montana Placer for sure. Also 221 Oak Street is across the street and is a fantastic place to eat! There are so many others just a quick walk away! Thank you!! We can't wait to come back! The value was great and the stay was perfect!!! if you are looking for a 5 star resort with a big lobby and people at every corner - this isn't the place for you. If you want a relaxing stay with no lobby, no people and a simple in and out room that is clean and comfortable - this is the best place around!

“Fine for a weekend stay, out of the question for a week!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2009

My husband and I stayed in Montana Placer Inn #5 - a detached "carriage house." We expected small and simple accommodations, but with a working kitchenette so we could make breakfasts. The kitchenette is a joke - the burners worked only sometimes, and when cleaning the dishes the water goes all over the counter due to a very poor choice and very cheap faucet. The couch in the living area is totally uncomfortable - schedule a visit to the chiropractor when you return home. There is no chest of drawers in the bedroom, and when you wash your face in the bathroom, you hit your head on the faucet. Good location and cheaply appointed accommodations.
