This place is not fancy by any means but is right on the mountain, has a wonderful staff and a great little bar/restaurant. The chili is amazing!

Ski in-ski out, right on the slopes. This place was a great value. Not too expensive, but wasn't a five star hotel. The people working the front desk were extremely nice and helpful. The rooms weren't luxurious, but they were comfortable. Heated Hot tub/pool was a great bonus!

We (two "young" seniors) spent a week a Ptarmigan Inn this month. I really can't fault it. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, while the barman (John) produced a meal from the restaurant on the first night when we arrived late, even though it was closed. No fuss, just good service. Breakfast was great with good service from 7.00 am onwards - important when you just want to hit the slopes, asap. Like other reviewers, we found the lounge area with imitation log fire, very relaxing. Wi-fi worked well. If I had a gripe, it was the small bathroom but frankly it was a very minor matter.

And for skiing convenience in Steamboat, the Ptarmigan Inn cannot be beaten.

We have skied Steambot well over 20 years and stayed in many locations. For the last seven years we have stayed at Ptarmigan Inn. You will NOT find a nicer staff who honestly care about your experience and pay attention to every detail. The entire property is very clean and well maintained. It is about 20 feet from the slope, a good bar, good restaurant with breakfast, lunch and dinner, on-site ski rental with a great bunch of guys running it and ski storage. Outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna and showers. Go for the service don't worry about the decor.
