Upon arrival we knew this was the place for us Real classy cozy and close to the Beer Store Our room had a nice view of the Howelsten Ski Area right on the river next to the Rail Road Track Witch by the way lulls u to sleep 3 different times each nite just imagine 240 box cars 1 by 1 Mac Donalds is close and u cant go wrong there good 4 smokers and pet owners

Started out ok, check-in of course, but after that all went downhill. I asked if the fire pit was going to be lit and they said it had been covered with snow the whole season. When we got in our room, it was quite old and rundown. The window was not working properly and actually woke up one morning with ice on the inside of the window. I had a rompus room next door to us, the people in that room lived there and drove a bus for the city. The kids were up all night playing WWF or something. I asked them to be quiet and that didn't work. The second night was not so bad but this place is still a dump. I wish that I had known that the city rents rooms for it's bus drivers there. That would have deterred me from staying. It almost seemed like a halfway house or something. My best advice is shell out another 50 bucks and stay at a decent place unless you are young, single and want to party all night instead of rest up for skiing.
I definitely do not recommend for families.

Despite the reviews, we gave this place a try and were quite satisfied with our stay. It was one of the less expensive places to stay, but that is probably because of its age and because it is closer to downtown than to the ski mountain. Trains are close so you might be awaken. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. In our experience, the people behind the front desk were nice and friendly. If you can, get a room further away from the breakfast area. We could hear the movement of chairs on their floor. Speaking of breakfast, I expected the typcial processed danish and waffle makers. While it did have that, I was pleasantly surprised to find hard boiled eggs, real strawberries, and a few flavors of syrup. Also, the OJ may have been from concentrate, but it wasn't watered down orange drink.

In spite of the reviews here we decided to try the Iron Horse. This was the cheapest place we could find in Steamboat.

The hotel was entirely booked most of the 6 nights we were here. It was surprisingly quiet for the amount of people in the hotel. No complaints about the noise.

It seems that most of the occupants are working people (construction workers, maybe?).

The hot continental breakfast was fine.

The front desk staff was polite and helpful.

Onsight laundry was fine.

My main complaint would be that the hotel seems to be run by people who just don't care. The rooms were barely cleaned. The blinds are covered in dust. The heater was covered in dust. The wastebasket was dirty. The halls needed to be vacuumed. The lobby was dirty. The bathroom was dusty.

I can't really say that I would recommend staying here right now.

It seems that a strict manager could fix nearly everything that was wrong during our stay.
