“Tough to beat the location and value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

If Snowmass is your target, then this place should be on your list of choices for lodging, particularly during the ski season. It is ideally located next to the Snowmass mall (rentals, shopping, restaurants, lift tickets, slopes) and the free buses for Snowmass and Aspen. There is no better location for these things, with the possible exception of the Silvertree Hotel (directly on the slopes, but consequently further from the buses).

If you have not been to Snowmass before, it is a vertically challenging environment (high altitude, and all things are built into the hill). So, for us flat-landers at lower elevations, walking any distance up and down can be a challenge. Staying here limits the steps to mostly horizontal directions (to the slopes, to the shops, to the restaurants). I used the free bus service to Aspen Mountain each day for some special lessons, and I walked from the property, up some stairs to the start of the bus line.

The slopes and the free gondola between the mall and the downslope activities like the ski school are 100 yards from the hotel.

The rooms are basic, but nice. They suffer only from being of an older design (remember when bathrooms were not bigger than your first apartment?). They are well-maintained and functional (skis can be hung in the room). Continental breakfast is included. A nice warm (90 degree) pool is on site, along with a hot tub (104 degrees). It is not uber-fancy, nor is it uber-expensive. It is a good value in a great location. The staff is well-informed, quite helpful and genuine.

Parking is available across the street, but is not free. You are parking in a Snowmass lot for which you buy a permit. Mine cost $25 for five days in January 2012.

“Dave, Pokolodi Lodge and Customer Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Dave and his team represent the best in customer service. For the last few years, we have taken a middle school cross country team and their families to Aspen for a race. Dave has always been great about getting us set up and accomodated, even when our team was so big this year and there was not enough room at the Pokolodi, he made arrangements with another property for us to take care of our overflow. We always arrive late on a Friday as we do not leave Denver until school is out and then we stop on our up for a workout and a team dinner. Dave always provides someone there late to check us in, and early on Saturday to check us out since we need to get to the high school early.

The rooms are always clean and well kept. I know many of the families in our group have gone back later in the year for skiing trips and have always been well received and cared for on the property. We do not get to enjoy Snowmass village very much due to the nature of our trips, but that is what makes the service and care we receive so important to us. I have and will continue to recommend Dave and the Pokolodi lodge as a great value because of the personal attention they give to their guests. Thank you Dave, see you again soon!

“Good Aspen Value Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

Excellent location right on the Aspen and Snowmass Village bus routes. Walk to the Snowmass ski lift.

Rooms a bit dated, but clean, spacious, and comfortable. Four in a room could be a bit tight, but great space for two. Nice continental breakfast, or walk 100 yards to Fuel in the Snowmass Mall for great breakfast sandwiches and coffees. Bottled water in the rooms for a buck, nice touch.

If you need a clean, comfortable room for a fair price (remember you're in the Aspen region!) in a great location to access any of the ski areas, be sure to check out Pokolodi.

Room Tip: Upper floors offer better views - of course.

“Pokolodi is GREAT!!!!!!”

What can I say negative? Nothing! (well, bananas and decaf coffee at breakfast would be good, but not critical.) Dave and staff went way above our expectations. We arrived at 11 when check-in was at 4. They got us in a room right away, so we were able to ski on day 1. The shuttle from and to the Aspen airport was great, rooms were clean, roomy enough for 4 adults (really! had lots of storage space.) And location was super...across from the mall where you walk right out to the slopes, plus buses to Aspen, other mountains are right across the street. No, bus noise was not an issue. And they even gave us a sweet deal on an extra room for our visitor for one night. Will definitely stay here again if we return to Snowmass. Thanks Dave and staff.

Room Tip: We stayed in lower level (cheapest ones), pool side. Great. No noise, great views. Only one flight d...

“Can't be beat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

_Great_ value for the money. We stayed Dec 13 to 17. Very conveniently located just across the street from the Snowmass Village Mall and 5 minutes from the Village Express ski lift and the Sky Cab gondola. Can't get any closer to ski-in/ski-out without paying a lot more money. Just a block from the bus to Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, and Aspen. Warm, clean rooms, friendly staff, nice continental breakfast, heated pool, big hot tub. Each room has a separate large locked storage closet for ski equipment.

In Snowmass, you must go to the Stew Pot restaurant in the Mall and have beef stroganoff. I also recommend renting equipment at the 4 Mountains Sports store in the Mall--a young staff but not at all condecending to us older folks from North Carolina who ski only twice a year. They were great to work with.

Room Tip: In the rooms on the street side you can hear the snow plows... but remember: snow plows mean fresh s...
