If Snowmass is your target, then this place should be on your list of choices for lodging, particularly during the ski season. It is ideally located next to the Snowmass mall (rentals, shopping, restaurants, lift tickets, slopes) and the free buses for Snowmass and Aspen. There is no better location for these things, with the possible exception of the Silvertree Hotel (directly on the slopes, but consequently further from the buses).
If you have not been to Snowmass before, it is a vertically challenging environment (high altitude, and all things are built into the hill). So, for us flat-landers at lower elevations, walking any distance up and down can be a challenge. Staying here limits the steps to mostly horizontal directions (to the slopes, to the shops, to the restaurants). I used the free bus service to Aspen Mountain each day for some special lessons, and I walked from the property, up some stairs to the start of the bus line.
The slopes and the free gondola between the mall and the downslope activities like the ski school are 100 yards from the hotel.
The rooms are basic, but nice. They suffer only from being of an older design (remember when bathrooms were not bigger than your first apartment?). They are well-maintained and functional (skis can be hung in the room). Continental breakfast is included. A nice warm (90 degree) pool is on site, along with a hot tub (104 degrees). It is not uber-fancy, nor is it uber-expensive. It is a good value in a great location. The staff is well-informed, quite helpful and genuine.
Parking is available across the street, but is not free. You are parking in a Snowmass lot for which you buy a permit. Mine cost $25 for five days in January 2012.
