“Yes, it is haunted”

I don't really have much to say for the quality of my stay except that I didn't believe in ghosts until I stayed here. Truly. I'm not crazy, but I woke up to a man with a top hat leaning over my bed in the middle of the night. I had no idea the place was haunted until the next morning when we told the staff and they just smiled. They said, "that's Luigi" and didn't really care to hear the rest of my story. So i found a book about haunted places in Colorado and learned that Luigi was a doctor who committed suicide in one of the rooms and sometimes comes to "visit" his patients. And that's exactly what I woke up to. He was leaning over my stomach like he was an old time doctor visiting me. If you want an adventure... stay at the Grand Imperial and hope for a visit. Atleast he's a friendly ghost!

“Authentic Victorian Hotel with Lots of Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

This hotel will transport you back in time to Silverton's historic mining days without sacrificing any comforts. I loved my third floor room with the soft cotton bedding and the view of the town and mountains. My friend and I had wonderful meals at the restaurant (Grumpy's) downstairs as a pianist played songs from the 20s and 40s. The bar is spectacular--not dingy and dark like some of the other bars in Silverton--but extremely friendly and warm. The owner is charming and the staff all very friendly and accomodating. I give this hotel/restaurant/bar my highest reccommendation, without reservation. Very clean, very unique--absolutely nothing generic and commerical about this experience.

“A wonderful time at the Grand Imperial”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2010

This hotel was wonderful. Yes the floors were creaky but the atmosphere, the staff and food at Grumpy's was wonderful. You can wake up and see the town surrounded by mountains. The town was friendly and helpful. No it isn't the Ritz, but if you want all those things go to the Ritz. If you want warm and friendly, family togetherness, or fly solo this is the spot. Come on in and share the warmth the people at the Grand can show you.

“Horrible!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2010

Let's not mince words: Don't stay here unless you have no other option! I haven't stayed in a place this bad in almost 50 years and that was when I was working out of town as a roofer when I was a kid, then the bathroom was down the hall. The bed was uncomfortable. The sheets were torn and I couldn't be sure they had been washed. The TV didn't work (they did bring in a replacement eventually). The windows didn't open (no AC) and there were minimal window coverings. The door lock was so flimsy I could easily get in without anything but a good swift kick. The window above the door was propped open with a plastic water cup. The carpet wasn't dirty, it was filthy! I will say that the staff was friendly but minimally effective.

“Next time I'll stay somewhere else, or skip Silverton”

The hotel is charming, and we didn't mind the creakiness, and the "cutesy" decor in the room. What we DID mind was that the beds were extremely saggy, there is no air conditioning and NO windows in our room opened on warm days or nights, there were no (to me) minimal supplies in the room such as a hair dryer in the bathroom or a coffee maker in the room. There was only one plug in the entire room for our computer, my hair straightener and the very necessary oscillating fan they did provide. The ceiling fan was just not enough to cool the room.
It was a good thing they have two queen beds in the room, as my husband and I could only sleep in separate beds, otherwise we would have been in an uncomfortable ditch in the middle of the bed all night. But it was still hard to sleep since it was so hot in the room!
I hate writing bad reviews, but can't bring myself to do anything better here.
