Why would anyone stay at a hotel when they could book such a spacious, yet cozy mountain retreat like this? My husband and I stayed in a top-floor, 3 bedroom loft unit in Buffalo Village over Thanksgiving weekend, and my brother and his family stayed in a unit on the first floor near the pool. New carpet and radiant-heated tile flooring was a really nice touch on frosty days to warm your feet. Thoroughly enjoyed the fireplace and the breath-taking sunrises and sunsets with views of the mountains and the town outside the living room and bedroom.
We also enjoyed cooking breakfast each morning in our unit rather than paying exorbitant hotel breakfast prices. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed (besides food of course), such as pots, pans, dishes, and even small stuff like plastic wrap, tupperware containers and extra paper towels, which were really appreciated. A large grocery store and many shops and restaurants were just at the bottom of the hill leading to the complex, in the towns of Dillon and Silverthorne. Breckenridge is about 20 minutes away and there is a public bus that can take you there if you don't wish to drive.
We enjoyed the pool, hot tub and sauna in the compex, which were not crowded. Kids seemed to enjoy the game room and sleds the owners provided for us.
There are no restaurants directly on site and Wildernest is not in a bustling tourist area, so if you are a big party-animal or looking for nightlife, this might not be the place for you. But if you are looking for a peaceful mountain retreat with lots of room, the comforts of home, and plenty of outdoor activities nearby, this is it!
